How much clearance is there between the hood & top of the intake of an LQ9 or LS1? I know the LQ9 or LQ4's off of trucks were about 3.. 3.5 inches taller then that of an LS1 or LS6, maybe a little less if you trim off some of those nubs on top. I know TPI setups fit.. & an LS based motor is a little shorter from pan to top of intake then previous GM small blocks.

Has anyone measured hood clearance on the 2nd gen trucks to see how much clearance there is between the hood & the truck manifold?

I haven't measured it, but I can't see clearance being an issue. It's not an issue on the cars and we've got more than they do.

Yeah, I know we've got more then vettes & camaros but I'm just wondering about at the front.. it looks like it might be a little tight on the 2nd gen s10s.. I'm sure a scoop would take care of it if there's not enough clearance though.

Yeah, you're right. The front could get mighty tight.

Know of any place that does good custom fiberglass for a fair price? It would help me to get a fiberglass hood w/ either an LS1 ram air style.. but farther out on the hood (I don't like the ones I've seen where the scoop starts 1/2 way up the hood) or maybe a roughly 1965 427 corvette scoop (kinda looks like the ram air scoop.. not the L88). I'd need it to be able to use OEM mounting locations & the stock hood latch set up. If I'm not mistaken though.. 1st gen trucks don't have a problem like this because the hoods relatively flat.
