View Full Version : ECM & wiring swap

I know that ECM's from '01-'02 S10's w/ the 4.3 carry the same part number as those from '01-'02 Silverado's & such. My question is if you unpluged the 4.3 S10 harness & plugged in the 6.0 Silverado harness (from the same year) wouldn't everything work out alright? If not what all needs to be done?

It's true that the computer numbers are the same and the plugs will physically mate. But, say one vehicle has variable steering and one doesn't. Or, one has traction control and another doesn't. It becomes a matter of what wires do I need and are they there? Then, you have to program the VCM for what you are doing.

Not hard, but careful planning is called for.

Ok, that's about what I was thinkin. I grabbed a harness of an '02 Silverado & about all I know what the truck had was the 6.0 & an auto trans. Guess I need to find some wiring diagrams that show the pin outs... know of any places online to find pin outs?

Hey Sparky,

I am getting my 350 this weekend. The motor is TBI from a 90 or 91 Chevy P/U. I need to know how big of a pain I am going to run into swapping ECMs.

You don't swap ecm's, just the prom.

Just thinkin about something while I was reading through the diagrams... is it possible, w/out causing troubles, to just swap in a silverado's ECM? would this cause the BCM to have any problems? has anyone here ever done this kind swap ('02 s10 droppin in an LS based engine) that could help walk me through it a little?
