What does wiring up an overhead console (small, sunroof type from a blazer) require? It would be going in my '02 pickup. I've heard theres special problems because of the RDS radio. wouldn't the harness for the console connect to the harness behind like a blazer? or is that connector by the pillar not there on pickups?

wich side pilar is the wiring on? because I pulled my drivers side not too long ago and there was nothing behind it unless it's supposed to be down by the dash. I gotta get going on mine.

IDK why the RDS has anything to do with an overhead console install.?.? Ive seen this B4 and have never found an answer of who or why this rumor was started. There isnt anything but the lights wiring you can get aboe the dash line. There is a few wires you can tag behind the deck and the rest will be at the BCM (3plug box to the right of the accelerator pedal behind the plastic underdash sheilding). Only thing else is to mount the temp sensor behind the grille, ground its black wire and run its green wire to the D.Green on the overhead. Lemme know which console you have and ill reply with the wire destinations. One overhead has comp and temp with compass module external, one has comp and temp with comp module internal, and the last one has comp and temp and trip computer. BTW, the trip computer on mine is either fubar or it wont work with a truck. Like instant MPG and a few other readings seem to work fine but distance doesnt work for ****. Still figuring it out. I have a couple non-trip computer ones and am considering swapping them in instead. I found another one in the yard on a fresh Jimmy the other day. Not sure which one it is, but Im gonna snag it if its still there.

I grabbed the pillar wiring from a bravada w/ the long console.. I have a short/ sunroof console (all jammed out). It's got homelink, trip, temp..etc, etc. I have the mounting bracket for the console. It's the '00-up console & my truck is an '02.. I believe I already have the temp sensor in front of the rad. But then again, I might not.

If the console is an option in a pickup the wiring harness is probably already there. If not, then the info provided by Mikz86TA should work for you.
Which mode are you having trouble with Mikz86TA? My '02 console doesn't have a trip computer (it's on the speedo). The only distance it shows is range on remaining fuel. The other modes are: Average MPG, current MPG, average speed, gallons used and range.

Ill have to check tomorrow. I havent farted around with it in a while. On HHeads truck, the temp sensor isnt there unless you had an overhead already. And on a reg.cab truck, it wasnt an option. Gimme the colors of the wires you have and I will decode them for you.

I don't know if its any help, but I keep finding that my 95 S10 4x4 is already wired up for every availible option. I installed gauges w/ a tach as my truck didn't originally have them and they just worked after installation. I mentioned this to the dealership when I was in there for a inspection, and they told me that Chevy commonly wires there vehicles up for every option weather they are going to have them or not. I have been upgrading truck piece by piece ever since. Everything I have picked up @ the junk yard is already wired up in my truck (Except power windows and doors). Have you pulled back the headliner I wouldn't be surprised if the wiring is up there.

I found the same to be true of my wife's Oldsmobile. Her van didn't have the trip computer in the overhead console. I bought one at a wrecking yard, plugged it into the harness found in the headliner and away she went.

Since the S-truck never had the option, it isnt wired for it. Only the S-crews and S-suv's.
