It's done off the distributor.

Why do you want to know? If you are hooking up an aftermarket tach and you want a RPM signal the easiest is the negative side of the coil. OR If you have a MSD ignition it should have a tach output on it.
If your factory tach isn't working it is like said above, the camshaft position sensor on the bottom of the distributor.

well my high end missfire came back so i was test driving it and noticed that if i can get it past 5000 rpm whithout it misfireing (done useing part throttle instead of full throttle) then the tach jumps around. so i figured the same sensor that gives the tach its signal probably gives the computer signal too which could cause a missfire.
