I never though anything of the show till my lil sister-in-law's boyfreind(a high school autoshop punk) took the truck I'm going to let her have when she gets her lisence this summer. The truck was at the shop as for an oil change(free labor is free labor). I relize that my lil sister may not have been inocent in this and I knnnow she probaly told him the car was hers, but she didn't cut the spings and wasn't in veiw when I saw the truck. HE WAS. When I asked him who told him to cut the springs. he yelled "don't hit me" and started crying .[ok so mabey I wasn't asking nicely. I mean those were eibauch VR spings, those spings cost a fortune.] he started babbeling and said "West coast customs did it" It didn't click at first and explained to him how dangous cut a coil was and didn't give 2 ****es what the sub shop did to their cars and I explained to him that he was going to have to pay for the springs.

Ok so I havn't watched mtv in a long time, but I fliping through the channels today and saw pimp my ride. Now it clicks in my head what the boy was talking about. I watched them take a good project blazer and put 3" of bondo over a dent 20" rims with no rubber on a truck that came factory with 14" or 15" rims without changing the brakes(can you say crunch) some POS titanium sub w/o the proper eletrical mods and put a fireplace in the rear. all this and they never addressed the failing engine(if you wathed you heard the rod knocking when they cranked the truck). HUM..The girl who got the truck saw a cool truck...... I see a rolling death trap. I've watch the show before and saw them mess-up a classic mustang by not doing the body work right. I've seen then throw a bookshelf on the trunk of car that didn't have the power to pull out of the driveway without allot of help, But I have never seen then do one thing that addresses any long term running issues.

This is a warning to all the young people out there. Just because you see it TV dosen't make it right. A budget build dosn't have a cheap build. Do it right the first time.

I have seen the show many times (hoping they would work on the engine) and they never touched it!
I hate the show. Personally I love Overhaulin!
And the woman on it..........****!!!!!
Now that is a good show!

i like overhaulin better also... you can actually see them work on the motor( if they dont just throw a new one in) and it is more project friendly than PMR.... PMR is just to show off how much money they have and what stupid things they can put in a car....

here's anoughter saying:

never spend more than a car is worth, but make it worth what you spend.

In outher words the differnce between a $500 beater with 5 grand in "parts" and a vehiecle you payed $500 for and put 5 grand worth of "work" into is the beater is just a pile of parts and is still only worth 500 bux

no its more like 20g's..

How is it going to look when you and your friends are sitting outside playing xbox and listening to music on your 4 10" subs... and you cant go no where cuz the engine is shot and all the battery power is being used by the electronics?...

I hate that **** show.I have watched it and I am just amazed how they only shine up a load of poop.Because its still poop and runs like poop just with expesive rims, tires and gadgets.I really dig overhaulin because they actually have a brain and use it.The only thing I saw good out of Pimp my crap was when they basicly gave that poor kid who took care of his family a new Scion XB.It looked like pure ricer poop but he needed a dependable ride and they gave him a reliable and safe one.

Pimp My Ride is the worst cars show ever! I haven't seen Overhaulin but I do wacth Speed chanel and they allways have good shows. PMR is for posers and just shows how f**ked up and stupid some people can be!

****, I am getting worried that I am starting to agree with bvr. I hate that show with a passion. They took an old suburban that had a hole in the roof, and basically bondoed over it. I used to get pissed off when I watched the show, but then I realized, the show is called "PIMP my ride" they pimp it. How many hoopties do you see rolling around that are "pimped" I think they need a show called, "make my ride scream" and do nothing but motor and driveline work

I've only seen pimp my ride 2 or 3 times. I can't watch it, it makes me sick. They basically mutilate the cars. I'd rather have most of them in the "before" state. Its a peice of crap, and at least it looks like a peice of crap. After only a few episodes I was angry that they hardly show the people actually doing the work. That is the whole reason I would even watch the show. Well I concluded they don't show much of it because they do it wrong/half assed. Of course they're pressed for time, I'm sure theproducers of tha show don't know squat about cars or the time periods needed to do a job right. But they see $$$ to do a job. Not to do it right.

I hope they cancel that show. I have seen a few of the vehicles on eBay (some of the earlier cars) and I never did see any bids. I wonder how they turned out.

Pimp My Ride (and MTV in general) gets a big BOOOOOOOOOOOO from me.

Do we have enough member to write a protest letter to mtv and have the show canceled?

It's not so much the show I hate, it's the fact that that young kids are watching this show and thinking "that looks like a good idea" and screwing-up a good car or thincking rusted out junker with blow engine and no brakes can be fixed with duck tape and bailing wiring and long as it's cover with bondo , but that's not the worst part. Then they get on the road with a car with these things. Kinda makes you wonder if that fine car with the 16 year old kid behind you can stop. That scares me.

Yeah,
Simply put, "If you work with crap, it really doesn't matter what you do with it, or how much you put into it, it's still crap!"

They attempt to fix the ugliest P.O.S's on that show, it's not even funny! I sometimes still watch it, but only as a last resort and if nothing else is on TV, but when you freakin' have 8, 10" monitors inside a vehicle and not even at least an oil change to your engine, somethings definetely wrong...

Just my two cents!!!

the show is not that bad....if these people want it done thats why they ask to get it done....those of us who know what's up realize mechanically sound is better then a sound appearance....they do some cool things maybe they should show what happens a month after the car was done...whether its ruined or how many of the people sold their car.....it could be far worse and i don't think its the worst thing ever....

Just because they can do something and are asked to doesn't meen they should do it! And they shouldn't put it on TV so future Gearheads get the wrong idea. The last thing we need is for people who wacth the show to grow up and become Riceburners!

Blazer69
11-30-04, 12:49 AM
no what i'm saying is these people volunteer their cars for the show....completely on them....it makes ratings and thats all mtv cares about...

I read somewhere they have to sign some sort of contract to not sell the vehicle for a certain amount of time. I don't remember the specifics. I wonder if their contract covers parting the entire thing out, haha.

OK I know your J/K, but for those who don’t know…..

NO your not supposed to bondo over holes. There should be not spot a vehicle with more than a 1/4" of filler on it and even that’s pushing it. If I have to use filler it‘s used as a skim coat no more than an 1/8" thick. here's why....metal and plastic expand and contract at different rates. Plus filler will hold moister and cause a rust. If you must use filler use a good brand (not bondo).

If you have a rust spot on your truck, like a small pin hole are a screw hole you can use a Oxy/acty rig with some brass or steel rods to fill the holes(it's called brazing). If you have a mig you can use that just back the hole with a brass plate or you'll just make a mess. In plases like door jams and spots that get allot of abuse you should use lead to build up because fillers will just chip off ( It’s not hard to use, it just takes patients).
As for shaveing, if done right you should not be able to tell where the filler plate was welded in. Yes I know even on overhauling they use filler around filler plates, but not that much. They are under the gun too and don't have the time to work the metal absolutly smooth like they do on high end show cars.

keep in mind bodywork It takes time and tools, It is a leaned "art form" and there is no reason why anyone can't learn it.

There is no right way to do bodywork, but there is a wrong way.

I guess I’m going to have to write a bodywork article

has anyone seen TRUCKS? i think it comes on spike tv. i watched a few episodes and keep in mind im not a huge gear head, but stacey(the host) goes step by step while he is lowering or raising a suspension or whatever else the project is for that day. you guys are right about PMR. it is total crap. they completely ruined that mustang they did and they made a hideous suburban for a girl that weighs like 90 lbs. bleeech :knockout_

dont get me wrong TRUCKS is a great show with lotsa info... but what gets me is that they start to show you how to do something... and the cut to a commercial... after the commercial they say.. "while you were gone.. we went ahead and installed whatever or removed whatever.." what if that part was what some people dont know how to do!?.... also... the garage is toooooo clean lol... there isnt even any grease spots on the ground. but it is a good show

I HATE pimp my ride. I wouldnt have my car fixed at west coast customs for free anyways... its obvious that theres only one or two guys who knows what theyre doing and theyre totally smothered by the rest of the idiots who just want 20" rims and a rediculous body kit. I only saw one episode and they way they wired that stereo made me sick... they ran a double battery setup on a stock 40 amp alternator, reused a 10 year old battery, no caps, ****ty wiring, to two crappy 10" woffers..... simply idiots, made me think of the guys I used to deal with when building boxes and "systems" in high school... if it looks cool and you can fool your ten year old brother into thinking its cool, then thats all you need. MTV is for retards... period.

yeah jasons filler plates are all good, only thing is i had 2 work the door handle plates a lil to get the lil curve going since the plates are flat and the door has a lil shape to it. all other fillers are not a problem like antenna, washer nozzle, and his 3rd brake.

Its hard to "pimp" if the car wont leave the driveway or if youre left dead on the side of the road.

the cars run enough for them to get them from the house to the shop and back....thats the idea of the show.....not saying its right just stating the obvious...

I find all these shows very informative and fun to watch!!!I am a big American Chopper fan myself.Paul senior and junior remind me so much of me and my dad it's scary. They are not as talented as other builders but they have not been in the game very long so for what they know they make some slick *** bikes. My favorite one is the Vinny and Mikey bike.It just looks the best to me as far as the build and the drivetrain they used. And Justin is one of the best painters ive ever seen.
