Here is list of mods i've done to my 2.5 that are smog and street legal and have boosted my HP over 50%
GM 2.5 E code
Complete engine re-build on 8-04 by O'Connell automotive Long Beach, CA
bored .030 over
TRW pistons, valves & springs
Sealed power rings #E384K30
Mellings high vol. oil pump #M62CVH
Comp cam & lifter kit #CL14-119-4, push rods, rocker arms & rocker arm balls
(*note: push rods were swaped from pre 87 2.5 because comp cams push rods don't fit right)
MSD 6a ignition module #6200, ignition coil #8226
Accel 8mm spiral core spark plug wires #5059K
Clifford header #52-1362,
DynoMax super turbo muffler #17767
Catco high flow Catalytic Converter
MEM/CAL stage 1 TBI performance chip (Custom tuned by TBI chips)
170 degree thermostat
K&N performance air filter
Dyno'd @147 hp @ 4800rpm's
Best mods. for the buck
Adding a Mem/Cal chip is easy and somewhat cheap, TBIchips sells them around $80.00 shipped.
Adding a bigger Cam is a little bit of work but it's the best upgrade by far, add a header and it's like dropping a different motor in your truck.
*note: i do not recommend installing a header on 2.5 without installing a bigger cam because the horsepower gain will be minimal.
