RE/Installing Stock Front Coil Springs...ZQ8

Greetings....am new to the forum and I have a question I would like to resolve. I am rebuilding the entire front end of my truck. I need to know how the stock springs are oriented as to up and down. The factory service manual makes no mention as to whether the end of the springs with a NOTCH about 1/2 back from end of spring goes UP or DOWN. I know about the seating position and the 2 drain holes...that's OK.

In searching for an answer, I came across this on Autozone site (see picture at bottom of page):

It says the tape (gone from painting) is opposite the NOTCH end and goes down. Which means NOTCH goes UP. Confirmed this on brother's 1990 Jimmy 2WD. (Can't see the notch)

Does it matter?:confused:?.....I inspected both springs and they look identical to me as to winding spacing top vs bottom...HEY..just had thought...I have ZQ8 and of course springs are different....maybe AZ info is for regular suspension???..I put this FE back together this week and installed with BOTH NOTCHES down. Not too bad at this point to drop LCA and swap so really need to know.

Found out about lean issue and may get that spacer and put that in so DRV side coil would be loose anyway.

No one home???....

Chevy couldn't help me out today....parts guy was dumb as stone and totally uncooperative....big as Jabba too....I guess Autozone knows more than GM...

If anyone has a stock 98 or so ZQ8 coil out, could you please tell me if the factory tape/sticker on the coil is indeed opposite of the end with the notch.....THX...BK

Thanx for the reply Sparky!!!!....picture does show end of coil with tape to the bottom....tape is gone from mine when I painted them...awhile back......if indeed tape is opposite the end of coil with gripper notch, then notch would go up....that's what I still would like to confirm....anyone???

Yes, the notch goes up and the non-notched end should go between the 2 holes in the lower control arm.
