Just a quick question on how do you remove the speed govenor on the 2.2L?

You can raise/change the limit by using a tuner.. like a hypertech.

If it's a manual tranny you can put a switch on the speed sensor wire. No speed sensor, no speed limiter.

yea, not sure if it is worth $300 to get rid of the speed limiter

it is a manuel tranny so i can just put a switch on my speed sensor wire? in doing this my speedometer won't work though right?

correct, but if you are going over 100, what good would the stock speedo do anyways?

Exactly. The cop will let you know how fast you were going.

I've looked everywhere and they dont make a power programmer (tuner) for the 2.2

JetChips makes a performance chip (stage 1 and stage 2) for the 2.2L for $250, really no sense in getting it though because it probably wont make that huge of a difference with a 2.2, its pretty senseless to pour too much money into one because its not going to go that much faster

ya know I've been tossing the idea around in my head to put a new motor in my truck....it's the 2.2...but after all the 4 banging/anti ricing/motor sizist comments I hear on here I think I might just build me a 4 cyl....just to prove to you all that a 4 cyl can be fast

Oh I know they can be fast. I was going to build am Olds Quad 4. To much damn money though.

Dont fall into that trap.... It can be done and we all know it, but it will hurt the ol' bank account. (Still be kinda cool to do it though) :D

So I should basically put a switch on it before it get to the speedometer? or should I tap it down by the tranny? I have the same a 2.2 manual, I got some 16 gauge wire should that handle it?

quad 4's are the **** when they are working....
get it down by the trans. Id run the same wire that is in ther. Also, you will not have abx when you turn the speed sensor off

Quad 4 is a Lotus-designed race engine, and needs a thorough rebuild by 100,000miles of street driving. The LD9 eco-tec is a refined version of such a design & will last longer.

Does your ECU get effected if the speed moderater is off? If so then none of the chips would work... would they?

JET chips are junk. Dont waste your money on them. HPTuners is the only thing id recommend. You can remove the speed limiter, correct faulty speedometer readings (different size tires), rpms...etc. But it will cost you more money than a chip. Its only worth it if you plan on dumping alot of money into it, IMHO.

No point in removing the speed limter, a 2.2 will barely hit it to begin with. Plus the tires/susp is not designed to be going over that anyway. Tire could blow out, could hit a pothole and susp swerve you right to a firey grave. Its there for a reason lol. Want a higher speed limiter, buy something designed to go higher safely.

What about with an automatic trans? Is it possible to cut off the speed sensor without a tuner?

my almost stock 2.2 5speed will hit the speed limiter quite easily...and as for suspension and tires my suspension is just as good as any other s-10 and better than some as I have an xtreme zq8 . tires will hold up to over 100 very easily as long as you aren't being stupid retarded. I would guess that without any tailwind and on a lvl surface I should be able to go about 120 max give or take

My experience has been that the 2.2 extreme tops out at 106-110. But it really takes a while to get there.
I'd be spending my money on other pursuits.

lol I'll put my speed sensor on a switch and cruise down I75 till I get pulled over.....then we'll know how fast they are...lol and becuz I'm doing this for science I wonder if they'll let me off the ticket.
