I was going about 10 MPH and just stomped it, the truck downshifted into first and started spining posi, as i felt it kick out to the side on me. It then shifted into second and started spining the tires again, but at that point i was well over the speed limit so i got out of it. It wasnt raining but it was about 35 Degrees outside. Does the 4.3 Vortech run that much better when its cold outside? Or was that just a freak thing?

when it is cooler out the engine throws more fuel into the mix becasue the incoming air is a lot cooler, the cooler air and the tranny kicking down will cause this, i have had the same thing happen my truck ran so much more powerful on the nice cool mornings when i just started it up

It's also not good to goose a cold engine.

I see my neighbor come outside every morning and jump into his car start it up and speed away. I cringe every time. I would say something but he's one of those guys that knows everything. He will find out the hard way. Good looking truck by the way.

It's just like in the summer at the track when you get lucky enough for a cool summer night.Cool dense air makes for more power.Tha same reason people try to get cooler air in to their engine via cold air kit,Ram Air,or use a lower T stat to keep the engine cooler.Almost the same thing. But like was posted don't go hog wild on a just stared up cold engine.Wait till it gets to operating temperature. My truck has been enjoying the cooler weather here lately. But it's been so cold I had to put my 180 T stat back in and remove the 160.It wasn't getting even close to operating temps in the morning.

After reading his original post again I see that he was saying it was cooler outside and not that his truck was cold.
I found the same thing with mine. I got to the toll plaza, paid, and just as it kicked into second, I punched it. It downshifted and my front wheels got off the ground for a second. What a rush! I tried it a couple times since with no result; must be the temp difference was just right that morning.

you got it sparky.
I know I have posted this before and I don't want to get booted from the forum but.. This is not a chevy, only chevy motor. It is a 4.3 cpi with cold air, alum radiator, and short water pump. It is connected to a 200r4 auto tranny. All this stuffed in an 88 Suzuki Samurai with no cat and one flowmaster. The tires are 225/70r14 so there is just enough traction to do the job. Yes, it popped the front off the ground. With the short wheel base I have, it is possible. Top speed so far was a scary ride at 110mpg that I will never do again and that was with some pedal left to go. There is some twist to it when its at a light at idle in gear. I put it in neutral and it sits level. Then when the light changes, I put it in gear and it twists again. Always good for a look from others. I had to put disk brakes on the rear because the shoes/drums would not always hold. I do get some smoke out the driver's valve cover vent if I sit at a light in drive with my foot on the brake. That is the only real problem I need to overcome at this point.
There is no real support online for what I have so I visit the 4.3 forum and the Suzuki forums. I am not here to start problems or get flamed for what I drive. Just giving the details since it was brought up. Believe me, I love my ride and if it weren't for the 4.3, I wouldn't own it.

No flamin from me, that's a respectible ride. I've read numerous pages of swaps & I've seen a few like yours. MGs & Triumps w/ 4.3s are pretty neat, too. Anyways, as far as the twisting problem.. look for subframe connectors or custom make your own. That will take a lot of the twist out of it.. maybe make it a little more stable at higher speeds, too.

i wasn't callin bs. just saying that there is not to many 4.3 s10's that can pull the front off the ground. didn't know you didn't have a s10, so i figured it must be a v-8 of some sort. congrats on a cool vehicle and it is always nice to see someone that is not afraid to do somthing different.

I keep forgetting this. Still hard to fathom but I have no reason to doubt you.
Go ahead and put what you have in your sig. No need for us to boot you as you are running an S10 driveline and seem to have much to contribute here.

Sometimes when my engine is about half warmed up and I snap the throttle wide open from a standstill (no powerbraking) my Jimmy stands right up and spins the BFG ATs on dry pavement. Other times it does't have nearly as much torque. Once in a while it actually bogs down quite badly. It's quite frustrating; I guess I should just powerbrake all the time.

Wow, I have some learning to do about inserting images! When I get a chance, I'll post a clear picture of mine.
