View Full Version : ZR2 rear springs on 2wd S10 = Lift?
I've got a 3-1/2" dropped '96 extended cab stepside and will spindle raise 3" in front this Saturday. A local wrecking yard has a complete ZR2 4x4 rear and wants $100 for just the springs. Does anyone know if the springs are different from a 2wd s10? Will this raise the truck or not? What if I buy the hangers, springs, and shackles as a complete assembly? Maybe they'll throw in the shocks and keep it at $100. Does this sound like it would work or should I just go back to looking for some stock springs and a shackle kit and new shocks? I am only putting 30 x 9.5's on the truck (which I already have). Unless I've been looking at modified ZR2's, the stock heighth of those looks perfect for me.

the zr2 gets the majority of there lift from the front hanger that is welded to the frame, if you look at them they are a lot bigger than the stock type, and for $100 you could find some lift springs, look at jc whitney they sell springs for good prices

..just don't talk to them over the phone. They'll take up about 1/2 an hour of your time trying to sell you stuff you don't need.
I'd just go with add-a-leaf springs (or return to stock in your case) and shackles...

I have ZR2 leafs on my pick-up and i get no lift at all from them, i get 2.5" of lift from hangers that bolt to the frame in front of the leaf springs

the same way the ZR2's get their lift in the back, a great way to lift the back 2.5".
If your looking for 1.5"-2" of lift go with add-a-leafs (like Tink said) or longer shackles
Thanks for sharing your knowledge on this. I forgot to ask one other thing- can I just get a breakline set from a full size Chev truck or suburban to get the additional length I need? I hate these truck parts companies like Aim and Springtech/Suspensionmax. You get a different price from them every time you call and that differs from their web price. No consistency. Anyhow, I would rather come up with a less expensive solution figuring they are not selling DOT grade lines. I might even try a shop that will custom make the lines, but I would first need to give them a sample, and that would leave me stranded. Any ideas?
