Ok so i have to replace the heater core on my 99 s10 4x4 and got everything apart but can't get to some of the bolts on the back of the heater box. Is there some bolts that hold the heater box to the firewall or what? Because i can't get the cover off without getting those bolts out and can't get to the bolts because of the firewall.

HELP!

i need this done by monday or tuesday

you should not have to take the whole heater box off to do the heater core, there is a cover on the box that you take off and it gives you acess to the heater core

Yes there are eight fasterners on the firewall side. All but the bottom two near the passenger exhaust manifold are bolts. Good luck w/ the top left hand bolt above & to the left of the fan. You need to drop the passenger side fenderwell to get to the bolt under the fan.. & it makes easier access to the bottom two bolts & w/ the PCM out of the way it makes it way easier to get to that top bolt. But I think all you need to concern yourself w/ are those bottom two bolts.. but all may need to come out. There's also a nut above to distributor that sticks out on a stud.. that needs to be undone as well. Take this info as you will.. I only pulled my heater box out & swaped in an a/c delete box (firewall side).. but that bolt above your distributor needs to be undone for the inside stuff to come out.

I know that the front of the box comes off, but i can't get to the bolts on the back side. So i thought that i would just take the whole assembly off the firewall and do it from there, but since there are 8! bolts holding that on i don't think that will happen. The only one that i've found so far is the one above the distributer.

now i know why the local dealership charges $900 to do this. I think im just going to say F$#k it, and put it back together and go without a heater

ok so if you can get to the heater core without unbolting the box from the firewall, how do you get the front off? I've taken out every bolt that i can find or can reach. But the thing still acts like its hooked to something.

I need some pictures or some description of where these bolts are.

I know im being a PITA but i can't figure this out and need it back together

thanks guys

ok just to update me and my buddy got the heater box out enought to swap out the heater core. Nothing a drill and some force won't take care of. So i got the heater put back together and tested it out and it works really well. It even got warmer than it ever did before only after about 2 minutes of idling. Now all i have to do is just figure out where one plug goes back to and bolt the dash back in and i'll be done.

Thanks alot guys
