Got the truck about 2 and a half years ago
And its kinda goin downhill. So i'm lookin to fix her up instead of sendin her downstream. I love this damn truck.
Known problems:
Brake problem (see brake forum)
Exhaust is rusted all the way damn near to the headers.
cab corners rusted out
the ohio winter ate my front clip.
142k miles. big problem.
service engine , airbag and ABS have been on since i got the truck.
The truck had an electronic shifting kit installed when i got it. over the years its really seemed to slowly destroy the tranny. It shifts into 2nd so hard the tires chirp, and going into 3rd it winds it out to 5k and slams it into gear, of course this is all with my lead foot images/icons/icon12.gif
Problems i've fixed:
alternator
radiator
tie rods
ball joints
all brakes
centerlink
shocks when i first got the truck
the driveshaft went out and i heard its a common problem on that generation of s-10's. cost 800$ for a complete driveshaft rebuild and balance. And the guy that had it before me put in all the u joints knuckle to flat and made that worst chattering noise ever.
definite projects for the spring:
run a 40 series flowmaster muffler 3"inlet to dual 2.5" outlets
New body kit
New cab corners
New paint job
Swap out the 96 style headlights for 98+ style
new carpet, new seats, paint the dash
Find out where in the great hell all the vibrations coming from.
New weatherseal on driverside door
normal wear and tear pretty much but my question is, to get my truck in decent running condition again would it really be that big of a task? Is it even worth the time to tear the engine out and replace all seals and gaskets, get it bored out and a 5 angle valve job all that fun stuff?
