View Full Version : Computer chip for OBDI 4.3l?
Anyone running a computer chip w/ a modified 4.3L? The 91 4wd Blazer just got a top-end rebuild using the Edelbrock total power package (cam, timing chain, intake, headers) plus comp cams lifters and rockers, heads with 3 angle valve job and new valve springs. Edelbrock indicates that a chip is necessary to run their cam, but only supplies one with the intake... I can't find the card that came with the intake to get the chip, so we are looking at chips from Jet... anyone use one and if so, which?

personaly i would not use a chip form jet, i got one for cheap so i pulled the bin file off it and compared it to the stock bin, for $200 all that was changed was a little more timing was added, no corrections to the fuel table, no change in any thing that really matters for a profrmance engine, if you want the level of a jet chip just turn the distributor a little it will give you the same effect
They will custom burn you one, i am NOT a fan of mail in tunes, but he is worth talking to. If your truck runs poorly he will re-tune it for you. I don't think the edelbrock cam is too agressive, so it shouldn't give him huge problems.
Anyhow, website: http://www.tbichips.com/
Edit, also if you have a laptop, ask him if it would be helpful if he had a datalog off your truck: http://www.tbichips.com/WINALDL.htm
Note: I have not Personaly delt with this company.

my best advice is to invest in burning your own chips, its not that hard to change simple stuff such as spark & fuel tables, constants, To get your self started you would need a programer, i use a pocket programer $150, Win ALDL free, TunerPro free ALDL cable i paid $45 for mine and a chips about $5 each for a EEProm. A custom chip is going to cost way more than this and with this setup you can burn as many chips as you like and you will learn a lot more about your truck and how it runs.

Would that work for OBDII trucks?

Would that work for OBDII trucks?
OBD II trucks are totaly different, the cost of the hardware and software are a lot higher, i have not looked into it as much as the older stuff becasue all the stuff i work on is older
Would that work for OBDII trucks?
I think the new stuff is easier, you don't need an extra chip, you just plug the laptop into the obd2 port and away you go. But to not clutter this thread, you can see what your options are here(post 3): http://www.s10planet.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5487
