Im not sure if this is true but i heard that you could put some resistor in the wiring for the temp sensor to make it think that the incoming air is colder and so the computer can put more fuel in. Is this true? If it is what value resistor is it and will this cause harm to my engine at all?

it won't cause harm, but it dosn't really do anything, except give you a SES light.

IMO there's better things to do w/ the money spent for that resistor that will & can give you more HP.
Doesn't give the SES light. If I remeber right it gives you a little bit of timing. Only costs like 20 cents

I can't ever remember the resistance, it's like 2.4k or 3.7k or something like that. Do a search here on the site and you'll find it. I've posted it several times.
Bottom line, it fixes the air temp at 56 degs. F. If it's warmer than that outside, it adds a little fuel and timing. Say 5-6 hp at most. But, if it's below 56 degs., then there is (obviously) no gain. 'course, it doesn't hurt either.
For us guys in the southern latitudes it's a decent mod. Don't have a clue as to how it would act below freezing if the air temp. was fixed at 56 degs. I do know air temp. plays a very minor role in spark table and fuel trim adjustments.

Exactly Sparky.. we're only above 56 degrees about 1/2 the year.. hahaha
I think it was 4.7k ohm 1/4watt?
but don't remember for sure.
Measure the resistance of the iat.
My computer when stock started pulling timing around 100* iat or so.
I do notice my fuel trims fluctuate depeinding on temperature, or it seems that way at least. It may be humidity related. But my afr on my wideband doesn't at wot i don't think.
I would leave the iat alone personaly, unless you are looking for consistency at the strip or something, then it is annother factor that can jerk your time around.

The iat is not that important of a sensor, truck TBI's never had them while cars with TBI had them

Doesn't give the SES light.
gave me one.

Blows my mind when you look on e-bay and see people selling "performance chips" for 20 dollars and all it is is a lousy resistor.
gave me one.
ever check the code?
what were the resistors specs?
I have an 01 also and it doesn't set the ses

i have no clue. never ran the code scanner accross it. the light poped on after putting the resistor on, and went off a few days after i took the resistor out. not sur what ohm it was, i just bought that "performance chip" off of ebay (i didn't know it was just a resistor at the time, those bastards).
ah, that sucks. Hate those guys on ebay.
Might even been the wrong one who knows.
Try a 4.7k ohm resistor (I believe thats the one)
