View Full Version : A 2.8 and a previous owner
I as of saturday became the owner of a another mans mess ...
it is a 86 chevy blazer with a 2.8 auto 4x4 .. They told me they baught the wrong engine .. Ok i know they was 2 i think .. I honestly donot know
i only drove a 2.8 s-10 one or two times in my life .. my problem is this I heard the other blaze this motor was in run ... they took this engine out and placed it in this blazer and said it wouldn't run because of it being the wrong engine code ... I never turn down a great parts s-10 and this thing cost me 200 bucks with all the paper work and transfers done so I kinda wanna get it to run and maybe use it to drive on the farm or 4 wheel any one know what they meant by wrong engine or know how to get this to run?

Could do the V8 or 4.3 conversion, then you don't have to fart around w/ trying to figure out if the 2.8 works or not.

there should be no reason that it would not run becasue its the wrong type of 2.8, they probley screw up somthing somwhere, is it a carbed engine?

Really can't be the wrong engine.
Really can't be the wrong engine.
true ... I have looked it over but not really well since i have been workin 14 hours a night at my regular job and then going home and working in the shack on my buddies mazda .... A lil advice to every one never put an ls1 in a body dropped mazda or a jag rear end ...well just stay away from mazda's with body drop and air bags laying the rockers is not worth this big of a headache..
But I have decided to put a carb on it and see what happens...
ok anyone know why i am not getting fuel or fire to this 2.8 the fuel pump come on but no spray and no fire .............

Check and see if fuel is getting to the fuel rails, if not its most likely clogged somewhere

Filter could be clogged, injectors could be clogged or an electrical prob w/ them. No spark condition check the plugs (are they fouled out?), check the coil, check the cap & rotor, check the plug wires. If everything's w/in spec then you need to hunt the gremlin hiding in your wiring & connections.
well i have fire but no fuel .........i tried to pour a lil shot of gas into the tbi and it will not hit .........anyone know the firing order to this thing?
ok i got this thing running by wiring the injectors up and tappin the hot wire to the battery ... so why would the injectors not be working ?
i changed the fuses
and put in a new module
rotor button
fresh gas
new fuel filter
any ideas on what else to track down the problem?

If you got it running by wiring the injectors hot to the battery, that means they just don't have power with the key on and during cranking. Test light should find the problem.
so no computer problem? every one round here wants to sell me a new computer and ECM

The computer grounds the injector the prescribed amount of time depending on load/rpm's/temp etc. Sounds like it's working fine if you rig hot to the injectors, right? That means a 12V feed problem to the injectors.
well your right about that ...now i guess i need to get out the old light tester and hunt my gremlin down ...
this is alot of trouble to get a 2.8 to run ..but a 200 dollar truck with a fresh motor is worth playing with if you ask me..
bad thing is i got a 92 4.3 blazer i have to fiqure out next ..anyone know of a place to get a wiring layout of this dude ...

could there be a problem caused by the previous owner jerking the ignition switch out of the colum?

yeah, it could be broken or the connections pulled from the wires to cause a short.
