any ideas what would be making a banging sound while making a left turn, I think its comming from the rear, I've changed shocks, and my leaf springs look fine but i havent removed the U bolts holding them. I also put new bushings in front stabilizer bar and new front shocks. I ve checked every where for worn metal or something out of the ordinary but cant find anything, could it be my rear end? happens only while making left turns where the truck starts to lean and while hitting bumps while driving straight.

Don't really have too much info to go on but.. I would double check all your mounts (engine & trans), check out your rear spring eyes to see if the rubbers worn out, check the U-joints in the driveshaft to see if they're worn & last but not least.. is the exhaust bangin around?

thanks for your help, not the exhaust, havent thought of spring eyes, and would it be something noticeable with u joints, like a loose u joint, or something else? alittle cold at the moment to check unless it gets really bad. I'll let you know

It should be noticible w/ U-joints. If you rotate one end of the shaft while holding the fixed end (axle side) if there's any slop you'll feel it & be likely to see it. I've seen bad U-joints w/ 1/4" slop in them.. bang around like you wouldn't believe. Deffinately needed to be replaced. Something you can also check if you have your foot on the brake & shift from park to reverse to neutral to drive. You'd hear two clunks.
Bad trans mount you could hear banging & you could also experiance a dog tracking problem.

Dog tracking is when the back of you car/truck feels like it's off to the right or left instead of being inline w/ the fronts. Ever watch a dog run? You know how its back legs aren't exactly parallel to the fronts? I had a monte carlo that tore the trans mount completely off.. banging & dog tracking. Tracked so bad it felt like I was driving sideways.

yes when i bought it the rear bumper was bent in the middle and both frame rails the bumper sit on were both bent a bit towards the passenger side, also the passenger side extended part of the cab below window was also bent in preety bad, its been on the road since september but the banging has been around for a month or so, I keep diagnosing the wrong things, but she's becoming more new every time i misdiagnose, I picked it up at a police auction for 250$ so as for the history of it im not sure, it was in an impound lot, I dont believe they were all that nice to her. and I did get the history from the dmv which said no history of collision. all the body work is done and painted, I really hate what salt and winter do to trucks here in ontario lol

Winters here in Chicago aren't very nice to the cars & trucks either, haha. $250 is a great price even if the truck's a little rough. But hearing about the fram being bent up a little makes me wonder how bent & out of square everything is. Because everything's been bent up you know it's gonna cause abnormal wear & tare. Did you ever measure from the wheel to the wheelwell lip on both sides to see if they're the same? If not the rear is shifted over. Measure the distance (inside to inside or outside to outside) between the front of the leaf springs & then measure the distance between the rear of the leaf springs & see if that's different, too. Could even just be a broken body/ bed mount.. which would be so easy. Knowing it was in even a small accident changes a few things to look at.

ok imma measure and check bed mounts, cab mounts leaf spring eyes and I was wondering if a torsion bar comes loose? mabey i was thinking the torsion bar has a gap in support assembly, so i was wondering, mabey its loose or frame is outta "true" makin one side rattle? and i have a buddy whos done leaf springs and said he'll help if thats it.tomorrow is friday so i'll be doin this on the weekend, and ya it was a steal it was sittin beside a gold mercedes and a limo, had wheel wells rotted ,running boards fallin off " they gone now" rockers were gone, engine and interior was GORGEOUS omg no scratches in seats, just one door panel had issues after a trip to scrap yard and this dealer that sells all S10 panels for brand new quaters and rockers now looks almost new. so Ill let ya know

Yeah, torsion bars can come loose. I've never really dealt w/ them as the only car I've ever had them on was an '83 Buick Riviera.

ok all fixed, torsion bar bushings, where the bar goes thru the frame it would hit the frame. thanks for the help
