Horizontal Distributor

Does anybody know why GM used this horizontal distributor cap ?

The thing is a total pain to work on, and I really don't see any benefit....

It is annoying, i have some clearence issues with my fuel lines and that cap, i can't find 90* boots for it.

GM be stupid lol, yea i love how they use cheap plastic parts that break and when they break there like $40 for a part that looks like it hsould be $.10

they did it so the spark plug wire terminals would line up on the same side as their partnered cylinders.

So what if any differences are there that prevent use from using a 1995 Vertical distributor?

We need the camshaft position sensor below the rotor.

And the cap's aren't compatible at all. Napa has pictures off all the stuff if you want to look it up yourself.

Ok, I did some poking around, the 1996 distributor has the hall effect sensor as well, I wonder what the wiring diffrence is ?

I'll have to pull the plug off my 1995 and 1996 to see the differences...

'95 cpi is horizontal and has the cam pos sensor.

'95 tbi doesn't have the cam position sensor and is vertical. This is the old hei stuff.

What about the 1996 Distributor....I'm just wondering here, it seems that everybody with this horizontal one is having trouble...

'96+ are all the horizontal. '95 cpi is also the same distributor.
