So as the resident moron, I feel from time to time it is my duty to share my dumbass mistakes. So the other day I had a set of plugs I was gapping on an old Snap On Ignition Simulator Machine. Many of you know what I am talking about. There was a GM HEI unit that I had my plugs attached to. If you dont know, the HEI units deliever a MUCH hotter spark than normal distributors. So as I was watching my plugs, I noticed that one of the wires was arcing to the machine body. Not even thinking, I reached out to grab the wire and move it.

BAD MOVE!!

I got shocked so badly my hand shook for 30 minutes afterward. IT WAS AWESOME

so the lesson of this is..............................................
DONT GRAB PLUG WIRES WHILE THE VECHILE IS STILL RUNNING!!!

I got lucky I wasnt going to grab the wire, i was just gonna push it.

Whoops!!!!

I did the same **** stunt a few years back. Tried to disconnect a plug wire at the cap to isolate a misfire...well, you know the rest. Fired from the cap into my hand! That **** does sting for a while. Reminded me of when I accidentally discharged a CRT picture tube with my forearm...

If you're "doin' the car audio thing" then you ought to know about stiffening capacitors. . . Ever arc the positive and negative terminals on one? I'll tell you from experience: DON'T -- it will shoot your *** 10 feet across an install bay, leave your hair standing straight on end for about 30 minutes, blow up the cap, and leave a VERY nasty smell in the bay!

Um. . . Not that I would know anything about that, though. . .

*Looks sheepish*

i cant say I have ever done something like that, and now i wont. We dont ever do any installs big enough to warrent caps though.
