My brother and I have a fued going on over who's ride's faster. He's got a 96' Mitsubishi eclipse turbo( fwd) and i have a 97' s10 4.3 with a few mods, like header-back exhaust, intake(from a mustang GT, haha), egr mod, tb mod, and am about to invest in a B&M shift kit. When we drag, he barely beats me by like maybe a car and a half. What else could be done to help with acceleration? And do I even have a chance to win? Any suggestions would be apreciated.

Gears,NOS(he has a power adder so why not even it up?),Programmer(will allow a higher shift points-if you have the header back which I am assuming means y-pipe you should be pulling at a higher RPM than stock. I noticed this on my own truck and I have a manual which allows me to select my own shift points)

thanks. definitely considering the NOS and programmer. I'll let you know what happens as soon as the hypertech programmer and the shift kit come in, then see about the NOS.

I wouldn't use nitrous with the programmer. Have it professionally tuned.

ask him how long he thinks the already weak 7 bolt mains will hold up with the abuse hes putting it through.

:D
but seriously, do like a small 50 shot of nitrous, that should give you the .5-1 car lead.

I think he should beat you by more than 1.5 lengths. The hypertech and shift kit will do next to nothing for your truck. My bro had both and the shifts were a little firmer and the tuner just eliminated the rev limiter and let him use 93 octane gas. His extended cab stepside with headers, CAI, SLP y-pipe, 3 in exhaust, B&m shiftkit, Hypertech programmer, March pulleys, Spiral throttle body spacer, 3.42 posi, fiberglass hood, shaved steps and fiber glass roll pan got a best of 15.3 in the 1/4. A turbo eclipse should beat that by a second unless its bone stock with tons of miles. Thats just my opinion though.

yeah, but his is bone stock with about 120,000, so it's nt that much of a lead.

Whats your engine code? if its a W motor you could always take the gear off the balance shaft that will give you about 2 tenths maybe little more. i did this i noticed a big difference after i got done. and just for race purposes to get the win you could get a shorter belt for just your alt and water pump so you have less drag. you just can't use your a/c and you wont have any power steering during it but when your racin in a straight line it doesn't really matter. the belt oughta give you another tenth or 2. go beat that DSM!!!

Let's be real about this. You have the engine with the potential to beat him but with out a power adder he is gonna beat you.The turboed Eclipse is not a slow POS by any means. With out throwing a fortune at it the best thing to do is add nitrous. It is a substantial amount of power at the push of a button and isn't as involved as forced induction. If you don't already have a posi I would get one and look in to going with a lower set of gears to help pull the truck along better. If yours is an auto look in to a good servo kit to firm up the shifts. The vette servo is fine but billet would be better. As much as most of us dislike imports those cars are not slow in the terms of most imports that kids rice out. Those cars are decent for what they are.Just keeping things in prospective.Gears,Servo kit,and Nitrous should put you past him if you know how to drive it right.
