Any of you guys think about throwin a V8, could be a big block, in the bed & boltin it up to an Eldo/toronado transaxle & then grafting the W body cars' frame in place of the rear end? Run a fuel cell in the engine compartment. Wouldn't have to worry about confined spaces & you'd have way better weight distribution. If I found a 1st gen I think I'd set it up this way for drag racing.

I have seen a few fullsizes done up like that and it is bad ass! Track width would be different.

Yea, I know track would be off huge & you'd need to run coil overs because if I remember the way my riv had it's front suspension set up, it was a torsion bar deal. The trans in the '78-up cars was a 4 speed that was cable actuated but I don't think that could handle much power because they had tiny little chains. The original trans was based off a TH400 was a 3 speed that could handle the power but I don't think they were cable shifted. I'd love to do it given the time & money.. both at once. haha

Yeah, I had and old Riv too and think it had torsion bars. Mine was a '75 or '76 and that trans is something 400 .

That was still the rwd version then. Mine was an '83 & from '78 or '79-up they were switched over to the W car chassis. eldo/toro/riv/& I think it was called the seville.. the caddy w/ the angled trunk.

Northstar Caddy steup might work. Also you might do the fuel cell under the hood--really f**ks with people at the gas station =). My buddys 302 Ranger had the fuel cell in the bed under the tonneau cover--got alot of stares and alot of questions while refueling. Interesting thought here.

Well.. it's going to be a difference in trans.. longitudinal or transverse. BTW first post, fuel cell in engine compartment. heh

Just saw a northstar engine somehow hooked up to a 700r4 ( said it was modified to only work with the 700r4 couldnt change back?) on ebay for a little of nothing (couple of hundered bucks). It was the 300hp northstar.
Cant find it now though.

northstars are chevy 60 degree pattern so 700's that were behind 2.8's have th ecorrect bolt pattern

check out some of the sandrails produced in cali, they use twin turbo'd caddy northstars, pumping out 700+ hp. Only thing is you gotta make sure whoever builds it knows what they're doing. I've heard northstars are picky sons of *****es, lots of problems tuning, and getting to run correct and reliably

A few years back there was a company in Hot Rod putting northstars in fieros, you could use that setup in an S10

T Man & me had a little discussion in one of the threads, northstar V8, in the V8 conversion forum. Don't think it would fit because the valve covers w/ the DOHC. It'd be kinda neat in a fiero but I'd rather drop in an LSx. A lot more parts available for that. But I guess having a 60 degree bellhousing on the northstar might make it a little easier.. choose your poison, I guess.

Now you're talkin my language Dogs.. I remember highschool & playin around w/ a friends 65-67 (one of the three) caddy that had a 472 that was pretty alright.. although the 500 from a later eldo was more what I'd be thinking if a SBC wasn't used. Wildside, I'm sorry. I thought you were talkin about crammin it under the hood. In the bed, yea, no problem. Under hood, I'm sure you'd need to at least get a three piece steering shaft to make your way around that thing, but why? haha

Thats exactly what the guy with the cheap northstar said he was using it for was a sandrail.
There is a guy at another S-series board who has an S10 with a 454 in the bed... this is his site:

i had this dream once, with a first gen toronado, putting the whole 455 and everything in the back of my 70 gmc, but it never happened, someone who doesnt deserve to be mentioned sent it to the crusher without my permission.
