So I have been planning on getting this going for a while but never got around to it... Well here it is... I'm building a computer for myself. My goal is to overclock it to atleast 4Ghz

Mobo: Intel Bad Axe 2
Proc: Pent D 940
Ram: 2Gb DDR2 @ 800Mhz
Hard Drive: 320Gb Sata
Video Card: POS... hahaha
Cooling: Thermaltake Bigwater 745 for starters

That's pretty much the background... I haven't started assembly yet but I will mostlikely do that this weekend.

You shouldn't have any problem hitting 4Ghz.

I really want to push it and try to get 5Ghz but I don't think it will happen... so I'm going to set my standard a little lower.... hahaha

I'll post up more as the build continues.

Oh yeah and I forgot to mention a 600W PSU

5Ghz isn't impossible but will take some finesse. Keep us informed. I'm about to do a new build here pretty soon myself.

Well here are a few pics... nothing is hooked up really. I have just ran the plumbing for the watercooling kit.

I wouldn't go that far. ;)

Is that Thermaltake kit pretty quiet? I've heard mixed reviews on it's performance, although the ones that like it, really swear by it.

Your going all out, processor, ram, etc. You gonna cool the videocard as well?

Joker2040
04-10-07, 02:08 PM
It it very quiet... I thought it was going to be loud considering it is 3 120mm fans but it's not. So far I'm cooling the CPU, RAM and Northbridge. I'm not going to watercool the video card that I'm putting in it. If I get another one and overclock it I might watercool it. I'm not a big gamer so the videocard doesn't really matter to me. I just want to overclock it for the hell of it.

I'll put up some more pics when I get the rest of it together. Right now I'm waiting on the rest of my coolant to come in. The bottle that came with the kit wasn't enough to fill everything.

Thats what I would do...

....but when I "build" a computer it only requires hooking up wires.:)

The starting point...

Yeah I know... I couldn't resist. It's already overclocked from 3.20 to 3.36 but anyway this is going to be my baseline.

Runs pretty dang cool, for being overclocked even a little.
But Im used to/still running a 3ghz prescott p4, & uh, they run a little hot. hehe

39*C while idling

What kinda of board you running?

Joker2040
04-16-07, 01:23 PM
Motherboard: D975XBX2 aka Bad Axe 2

It's going to be overclocked higher.... I'm just playing with it now. I want stability more so then numbers.

Here are my temps after being under full load from Orthos for 15 minutes...

What do you do to overclock one.

Joker2040
04-17-07, 02:19 AM
Several things...

It all starts in your BIOS settings though. That's where you will actually go in and tweak things such as bus speed, the multiplier and cpu voltages just as a start.

Another update...

I'm still shooting for 4.4... I'm going to tweak it this weekend.

Joker2040
04-21-07, 07:56 AM
4.4 is done!!!! See below.... I'm finally going to sleep tonight so I'll see what I can do tomorrow... Maybe 5

cool

Joker2040
04-21-07, 09:18 PM
Well it's not stable at 4.4... Windows runs fine but when I try to run orthos it crashes after a few seconds so I will need to tweak it a little... maybe play with the voltages

he jus needs to upgrade to the new E8400... retail 3ghz cpu.. can be OCd to around 4.2 stable on crappy STOCK Intel air cooling... hehe

XtremeGrocerySmuggler
02-18-08, 09:55 PM
ROFL you're crazy! 4.4 and you're shooting for more?! I salute you :D

I'll have to post my setup but it's quite modest compared to this spawn of satan you call a computer.

I'm running an Intel Core2Duo E6750 OC'd from 2.66 to 3.2 on an Abit IP35 Pro. Only got 2 gigs of the corsair dominator ram in atm cause I fried the other 2 :P Evga 8800GTS 320mb, WD 150gb 10k rpm raptor HD, soundblaster audigy 2ZS with 5.1 Cambridge surround sound and 22" ViewSonic widescreen LCD. Used to game, but not anymore. Lets see some more pics!:)

Joker2040
02-20-08, 01:36 AM
I actually stopped OC'ing it and left it alone for a bit. Moved on to other things. I've played with it some after that but not much.

I'm doing a computer in a fish tank next. I have the computer and the tank just need to buy mineral oil.

Thats the one i am curious about since i have been toying with the exact same idea for a couple years just never got started on it
