I've got the LS1 e-fans in my truck thats activated by the ECM. It's wired to run both fans at half speed during normal cooling and switch to high when the AC is activated. Is there another wire to tap into besides the AC clutch wire to activate my relay so the fan doesn't cycle with the clutch, but stays hot whenever the AC is on?

... perhapse you could tap into the A/C control switch in the cab so the fans run as long as the A/C switch is on instead of the A/C clutch.

I've got flex-a-lite electric fans and their stand alone VSC controller hooked up to the compressor clutch as well, and the fans turn on & off with the compressor clutch (unless the engine coolant temp is hot enough to just keep them on) I'd like to get them off of the clutch too, I can actually hear & watch my idle drop momentary when the a/c compressor and electric fans click on at the same time.

Thats what I am trying to get rid of, I hate how it cycles with the AC compressor. How do they do it on the newer fullsize trucks with the e-fan?

I know the 07+ fullsized 4.3's are coming with electric fans stock.... I think they are controlled just like yours.... they turn on with engine coolant temp and A/C clutch

Year and engine and I'll post up the wiring diagram for you. I'm fairly certain you're gonna have to tap it directly from the control head.

Control head sends the request signal to the ECM/VCM which then decides when to cycle the compressor on.

I was thinking about this, the problem that I see happening. If you decide to tap into the A/C control head or A/C button & switch, since the control head simply just tells the computer the driver request for A/C, it might only be dealing with 5v reference signals. There are ways around it, but you might want to look at things with a multimeter before taping wires... and even than be careful to not just probe any lead in the harness, I've seen computers fry by probing with multimeters.

Does anyone have a CFM recommendation for electric fans installed on a 4.3L Blazer with air? I know the more the better up to a point before you get into amperage draw issues. Is 2500 enough? 3000 CFM? Thanks.

A Taurus fan will move enough air to cool a smallblock and plenty enough for a 4.3.And they are cheap.

I believe the (brown) wire at the AC control head is the one thats activated when any of the A/C selections are on. i actually have my dash apart right now and will come back later and post that verification.

Max....which Taurus E-fan is commonly gotten. I was out at the salvage yard and saw 2 different loking fans on the later year Taurus'. Is there a diff. on the engine sizes of the fan most wanted? Also is there a way to mount these using the stock shroud? I could fab something easily myself, but would like to keep the top plastic to remain stock looking.

Mikz I forbid you to install a Ford part in your S10. May the car gods rest your soul.

I'm playing, mid 90's taurus I believe

3.8 mid 90's usually

Cool....Ill check one out tomorrow. BTW, I did some verifying on the AC wire as mentioned B4. Pulling out the control head........you have 3 knobs....the far right is the OFF/AC/MAX AC/ETC....behind this knob it has the vaccum tubes and a 3-pin plug attached....the center wire (brown) on that plug is 12V when AC is kicked on and in ANY selection. This is proabably which one you are seeking. Hope this helps =)

No Problem ZQ. Hey Max....is the mid 90s the later model boxy Taurus or the one designed after an egg?

I have a flex-a-lite fan which I had tapped into the compressor clutch, until I noticed when the coolant was warm enough to kick on my fan it back fed the compressor clutch and made it run all the time. Now my compressor leaks and I'm going to have to get a new one.

Personally,if I had to do it again I would use the e-fans from a Taurus or some other salvage car just because it's so much cheaper. The f-a-l cost me about $215.

A diode inline on the wire from the compressor clutch should take care of that. You would want the anode (-) pointing towards the compressor clutch, so the cathode (+) would be away from the compressor clutch.

Check out the 4th from the bottom line in the 1st post. He said the diode was $.22 at radio shack. Hope that helps!

Thanks for the info T-A-C . I actually thought about that after it happened I just wish I had known about it beforehand. You would think fal would have mentioned that it would backfeed under that situation.

No problem. Yeah, I would have hoped that a company that specializes in making those would have told you how to install them (MORE) correctly. Or they could have even made the provision for it on the wire or harness--however they have the kit setup. You could call them and complain and see if they'll do anything for you.

hey just trying to get this old thread going again.....I have a question I'll be putting in a taurus e-fan shortly and it'll probably be out of a 95 taurus or sable.....it's a puller fan and I was wondering if I could reverse the current and make it a pusher fan.....I have enough room infront of my radiator for the fan and I'm trying to make more room in the ol' engine compartment.....would this hurt the fan motor? any input would be helpful....thank in advance

Some fan motor designs are made to be reversible and some not. To reverse the direction, just reverse the power and ground fan motor connections. Not the relay or power center connections.

will this hurt anything?

Mikz86TA

Not if the fan is intended to be reversible. Current draw is the same. Just swap the Ground and Voltage wires AT THE FAN. Im not sure about the Taurus fan, but most aftermarkets are reversible.

I dont know if it was a bad fan or not but a buddy of mine tried reversing a Taurus fan on his full size truck and it went dead after a few weeks.I told him not to try it that I though it would be a tighter fit as a puller but would last longer. The fan can be wired to be a pusher but I dont know if I would try it.Again it might have just been a bad fan. After he got a new motor he put it back as a puller and it is still working today. The Taurus fan on high speed pulls a **** load on the electrical system.Like I have said in previous threads I highly recommend using a heavy duty relay that can handle that large of a draw on a consistent basis. But the Taurus fan will keep your engine cool better than most of the aftermarket fans out there for the price.I have used mine in 100 plus days with AC on high standing still in traffic for awhile and it never even creeps above were I have it said to turn on.And there are plenty of people using them to cool some wicked fast smallblock vehicles. And it keeps them cool to.My buddy with the fullsize has a 400 smallblock in his truck putting out about 385hp and it still keeps his cool.So I very highly recommend the Taurus fan over most of the other fans out there. For there output and the price you cant beat them.

Mikz86TA

Then from that experience, I would say the Taurus fan isnt reversable. But at the junkyard here, you can exchange them if they go bad within a month.

thanks everyone for the input....looks like I'll just have to find another way to route the cold air intake....lol don't feel like ruining a fan just to find out if it's reversable
