I wouldnt go talking about Ford's like that. Freedom of speech is allowed of course but My GMC Jimmy (same as a Blazer) Took a sht on me at least once a month. it was one thing after another. My dads Fords Have lasted through the toughest of conditions. Basic maintenance is the difference to me. Ford cost more than GMC or Chevy. But they break more.

I dont know whats with the ZR2's lookin like they drag asss. Everyone I know on the ZR2 site adds a 2 inch bracket or lift. I know I punch it so much I wouldnt be surprised if I did something or break something in the future.

Okay Im just replyin' to some of these posts sorry for the multiple posts.
My old Jimmy got compliments for being in good condition and being shiny. This truck gets compliments for looking badass clean or dirty, and more compliments when its dirty (muddy) All the off-road fanatics come out the wood work.

Never got a ford after that. It's also how u maintain u'r auto to as to how long it will last

Now I still cant understand how some people manage to put down a Ford. (much less any other car company) As far as that once a week stuff.... How old was it when you got it, and how bad did you beat the sht outta it? Between the 3 Dr F-150 when it first came out, the '00 Expedition and now the 06 Explorer (exploder) not one has had any major problems. Including the F-250's at work, they hardly run into any problems. If you do "PMCS" (preventive maintenance, checks and services) you should have no problem. Am I defending Ford's? (um.. yeah I guess I am...). But thats only because I've been around them so long.

Slacker1357
05-11-07, 07:19 AM
BTW thanks for the comments on my truck, I may be out this week end to put some more mud back on. I'll have to steal my brothers camera, maybe I'll get a shot of my truck on site.

Now I still cant understand how some people manage to put down a Ford.(much less any other car company)

I've owned 2 Fords... a 74 F100 and an escort... neither gave me a lot of problems, but I am die-hard GM because my father abused every single vehicle he ever bought and the only one that wasn't on it's last leg w/in 3 years was a GM - the Fords and Chryslers could not take the abuse. That Chevy lasted so long, they ended up giving it to my brother after 6 years of abuse and he just got rid of it a few years ago.

Anyhow, the reason people put down any car company is because of personal experience... you said your GMC Jimmy took a sh*t on you at least once a month. Well, I've owned many S10s and Blazers and they were the most reliable vehicles I have ever had... never left me stranded. In fact, my Blazer was still running reasonably at 210K with a bad lifter. If people get one 'lemon' than they will generalize and assume all those vehicles are junk. A guy I work with had all kinds of problems with a Pontiac and because of it, has sworn off GM...

Back On Topic....

Well, mine is a bit saggy... suppose it is mostly the weight. My 91 Blazer was saggy too. In fact, most Blazers in general look saggy to me. Also, I believe that the wheel wells in the rear are different than the trucks (not as much clearance), so that makes them appear to be sitting closer to the tires as well.

firefighter
05-11-07, 09:22 AM
Well on the FORD conversation has anybody noticed they keep getting recalled for spontaneous combustion? I've put out my fair share of cars and most of them were FORDS and the only brand I've seen take a house with it was well a FORD and I've seen it happen twice.

My Blazer don't have a saggy butt actually it sits higher than the front it's also quite perky thank you very much. lol

I got her set up to have a slight rake 3/4" to an 1" higher in the back.

Actually, my 2wd was the same way - it was so much higher in the rear that it looked a bit like a gasser. Maybe the sagginess is a 4wd thing?

back off topic for half a second :D

I have to agree with the whole abuse taking ability of the GM vehicles. yes there's been a spatering of Ferd's run thru the family, even a couple mopar products... but even with a good service and maintence plan the other cars/trucks just didnt cut the mustard. Not too many ppl out there can claim a lifetime of watching their non gm cars and trucks excede 200K miles and still be in running/saleable condition. I would NEVER buy a dodge or ferd or chrysler product with 140-150k miles, gm.. yea ok.. its just broken in.
Not to mention i used to pull built ferds and d0dges out of all kinds of mud holes and ditches with my stock Chevy k-5 and S-10's :P I cant even count the tow straps i've owned as 'get me unstuck' fee's hehehe

*hides his soapbox*

we intentionall keep the parking yard at our cottage a 4x4 pit to keep the neighbor's kids friends from parking there when they come over to party as most of them have karz :P i couldnt imagine pulling into there with anything less than a s-10 ... its got some 12-18" deep pits in it from us with our truck's playin around when its rainy/wet out there :D

It took me a good 4 hours to clean the truck inside and out. the entire time I was telling myself that i'd reconsider going off-roading again...but then I remembered how much fun I had! I've got some light scratches down both sides of the truck that can probably be buffed out...i hope...

the truck is fine other than that. off-roader at heart, street queen by disguise!

And yes, it is quite beautiful here in Washington. I get sick of the rain all the time but it makes for amazingly beautiful summers and scenery..

Pressure washers come in handy if you start offroading;) , but it looks like you had fun! Getting in the mud is fun but it DOES suck to clean it up when you get it really muddy but it is definately worth it for how much fun you can have offroading.

Awesome pics. I would love more opportunities to go off roading/muddin but we don't have a lot of places near where I live. I've only been once but it was awesome. Finally got the Z dirty. I dont have enough cash to get my 4wd working this second. I also dont have many places to go to and get that dirty... trust me I've tried.
The only mud bowl I know of is in Ft. Bragg NC, and thats a bit of distance.

as far as towing the H1 (real Hummer). I noticed there was 3 trucks... but then again it was on snow.

but still, good job on the off roading and nice pics.

LOL, honestly, the engine bay looks no different than with a 4.3 but just a little more crowded in the front.

I did a 2" body lift when I put the V8 in. That and all the usually swap stuff like electric fans conversion, computer reprogrammed for the 5.7, advanced adapters engine mount plates, 7qt oil pan, headers, etc...

I did a lot of fender flare trimming so the 33's would fit even with the body lift.

Here's my web page where you can see engine bay picks of the V8 installed. These are pre 33" pics. Enjoy:

Thanks for the positive comments. Well for me it was do or die. 4.3 died so I had to do something or take a loss on it. I've done engine swaps before so I wasn't scared of doing it. I did have the money at the time so it was possible to go with a new gm crate engine instead of a junkyard motor. I am happy I did. It is a very fun vehicle now. My last conversion was a 79 Monte-Carlo that I put an Olds 455 in. I called it the Mustang Killer ;)

Tom, your sigs and avatars are always good. Kraut's "V8 that *****" is good too. I'm partial to that one though "I think it was originally or at least most recently about my truck if I remember right". As for you ZR2 folks, well, they are all cool. Nice. Did you just get done mudding in those pics? You got some good splashes into the engine bay. What is that cover on your air filter?

The cover came with the intake, its just a plastic shroud to keep water out. And ya recently all our snow has been melting so theres some nice mud and of course lots of puddles lol.

That's okay, ZR2's are mud trucks. Just grab a bucket of mud every now and then and throw it on in between off road trips! :D

Update on my Z... it got into a minor fender bender. Now that Im on leave, I still cant drive it because the insurance guy needs to look at it first. From what I understand, My brother avoided one idiot college girl that was making a left from a right hand lane, but the car behind her did the same thing and clipped the side of the blaZeR2. Both girls thought the street was a 2way not one. its still drivable, but I want any damage done to the vehicle to be from me offroading, not jackass drivers.

Im not gonna bother with pics unless I find out my bro already took some. So dont bother asking, Its nothing more than a dent in the side behind the passenger side door, some scratch/gouge just below the door handle, nice dent in the fender and corner of the front bumper pushed in a little.

The BLD is an 89 2wd built to handle like a new Xtreme. its currently sports a 4.3/ auto with a few mods, but may either get a wynjammer or a 6.0 swap... who knows. i may even paint it...

I say leave the paint and drop in the 6.0 a local "crazy" dropped a 6.0 from a wrecked GTO into a single cab Colorado.. Let me tell you, fighter jets don't stand a chance with this truck.. Congrats on the TOTM by the way...

Thanks!! Yeah I did 31s on it for 2 reasons, the mud tires that were on the truck when i bought it were really rough, and i love the way the BFG tires look. They've been smooth on the road good in sand but mud sticks to them too much.. all i have to do is pick up some speed and all the mud flies right off..
