i have been trying to search for a part number for an oil filter with a check valve, because as quoted below they are out there some where
"Engine knock: The 4.3L V-6 can have knock (especially at startup) that's eliminated by using an oil filter with a check valve"
my truck does not have this problem but it is good prevenitive mesure, as i know it is a comon problem on the toyota motors and causes the timing chain to wear out pre-maturely.
any help would be good
thanks
jesse
The startup knock is a rod knock, which I have no idea how a check valve would change that. Where did you get that information from?

The Chevy filter sits upright, therefore no need for a "check valve" as some filters that can lose their oil because of the angle.

by the looks of it, I think its a cut and paste

that makes alot of sense now that i think about it, i just had read the "common problems" and thought it would be a good idea for preventive mantanace but now that you say that it makes sense and my search is pretty much done for now

I think the K@N Gold oil filters have check valves for all apps.
Reproduced from www.sporttruck.com

Every S-10 Truck or Blazer I've owned since '83 has had an oil filter that sat SIDEWAYS!!!
The '83 was block mounted 2.8 accessed thru the wheel well. 4X4
Same with my '92 extended cab with 2.8. 4x2
My current Crewcab 4.3 is factory remote mounted under the radiator. 4x4.
The reason for a check valve is to prevent backflow from the engine lube galleries after shutdown. This keeps oil in the galleries(primed) and helps oil flow to bearings, lifters, etc; NOW!, instead of waiting for the oil to make it's way from the sump thru the pump, filter, galleries, then to the bearings, lifters, etc.
Personally I'd like to get a pre-luber pump on my truck. Turn key to ON, wait 3 sec for oil pressure, and start. Not in a hurry either!
