is there any way to mount a xtreme air dam on a sonoma? how 'bout an airdam that would flow withthe xtreme ground effects? does anyone beside xenon make an air dam for the sonoma?

saw a 98+ sonoma in lafayette the other day and it had the xtreme ground ecffects AND airdam on it. talked to the guy and what he said he did is replaced the gmc bumper horns with s10 bumper horns, along with the bumper and the airdam. looked pretty good except for a small gap between the headlight and the top of the bumper. i think this is what i am going to do next spring.

I was wondering the same thing...Take a look at this pic. It looks like the lower air dam piece and not the entire bumper cover.

The only difference between the S-10 and GMC/Olds bumpers is that the S-10 uses a solid bumper with an airdam and the GMC/Olds is a bumper support with a cover over the entire thing. If you take off the cover and bumper, you can mount the entire S-10 assembly right up to the frame. The outer supports for the pre 98 are slightly different but make minimal difference. The GMC/Olds headlights are positioned up a tiny bit off the bumper and does cause an ugly gap with the straight S-10 bumper.

I'm not sure about pre 98 GMC/Olds... I only got to play with the new style of those.

This is the one I have on my Blazer. All you do is line it up on the bottom of the bumper and then drill some holes and screw it on. As long as the Sonoma bumper has the same bottom edge as a S10, then it will fit!!

Not tonite while its dark and 8 degrees out I wont have pics. But that pic you saw in the link is exactly my setup. The air dam is just the lower section of the picture and the rest was the bumper itself.

if i could figure out a way to make something to put in the space between the bumper and the headlight it would be even better!!! you guys got any ideas?

I've never done it or looked at it, but the frames are very similar, I wonder if you swapping out the facia (lights, grill assembly, bumper, bumper cover, air dam) from an s10 xtreme onto you sonoma is the way to go. the core support must be the same and i'd wager the fenders are also, so it should mate up at those points. if you want to keep the grille and the headlights from the sonoma then it sounds like you have to fab a piece of material to fill the gap or tweak the headlight location?

the issue appears to be the bar that splits the s10 lights does not exist on the sonoma, obviously, so the gap is reflected in between the lights and the bumper. the air dam, with modification or different attachment setup could be fabbed up to bolt on to the sonoma bumper, i would imagine. maybe not? i know the sonoma has a grey filler piece in the bottom, a nice smoothy bumper plus the xtreme airdam would look sweet and solve the headlight gap issue. that is a nasty gap.

if it was me, i'd replace the lights, grille, etc with the s10 stuff (plus i'm biased to the s10 look, lol)

SS makes a lower valance to fit the sonomas.

changed my mind again. saw an xtreme fleetside that looked like mine, same drop and all with the body kit and it looked good. something i have been thinking about as to the space that would be between my envoy headlights and the bumper i would get a piece of metal welded on to take up the space or make that same piece of metal clip into the holes that are in the bumper somehow using the style clips that hold our grilles on. i think i will go with the welding idea...

the old first gens used to have a piece that went between the bumper and the grille/headlights, like facia or something it was a steel trim piece that bolted in. you could use the same idea here. it looked good.

the sonoma dose have a factory airdam simular to the extream, but I can't remeber the trim pakage.

i know exactly what you are talking about, bvr. i got the vin of a truck in town here with the bumper you are talking about. i am going to go to the dealership and have them run the vin so that i can get that bumper. i figured that would make life a little easier on the body shop.

It's been done:
http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/10/web/682000-682999/682952_14_full.jpg

He used an S-10 bumper and filled the gap between the bumper and headlights by molding fibreglass to the bumper.
Looks pretty sweet IMO.

you may want to look into the yc7 trim pakage. It appears to be a sport bumper with some body flare for the sonomas for 98-01. I looking at the bumper in my LMC and it's 399 the Xtreme is 399 for the airdam and 199 for the actuale steel bumper part. plus there's allot of little odds and ins in the picture that arn't on a sonoma.
