can anyone help? i get a smell like oil burning through the vents but only when the truck is not in motion. when i am in motion you can't detect the smell at all. has anyone else experienced this?

I'd spray on some degreaser, take a pressure washer under the hood & clean everything up & then check for cracks or broken pieces on & around the heater/A/C box on the firewall side. Even if nothing's cracked or broken I'm sure your engine bay could use a clean up...

A/C and heat gets its air through the outside at the cowl area. If you have a PCV or breather problem...or lack of them...or have a valve cover leak, etc. then you will smell the oil burning off coming through the vents. I had my TA running with 2 breathers instead of a PCV setup, and the high temps, coupled with way it was built, and synthetic oil, caused the blow-by to come out of one breather and drip to the valve cover and down to the head/headers area. Result was a burning of the oil to fumes and when driving it was possible for it to get sucked up at the cowl. If youve seen cowl induction hoods and study why this is a good design, youll know that when in motion, the cowl area has a high amount of pressure. Thats why its more present when driving is the forcing of the fumes by pressure down into the cowl area. A properly adjusted hood level at the back, with the appropriate cowl seal and fix the oil leak will eliminate your issue

make sure its though the vents, if the gasket for steering column is bad and you have a bad valve cover gasket it will smell.
