View Full Version : help with 89 4.3 water pump
Need some help:
I finally figured out where leaking coolant was coming from.
The water pump.
I called to get the price on the part but don't know if it's a "threaded"$60
pump or unthreaded one $40.
Is there any way to know which one it is without taking it out first?
the truck is an 1989 s-10 6cyl 4.3 2WD fuel injected/carburated
extended cab and has durango interior.
Any help would be great.

That should be referring to the attachment of the clutch fan. Reach down or look and see if there are nuts on the back of the bolts which atach the fan to the hub. If there are its unthreaded, if not its threaded.

The fan on the front of the motor/ pulley on the front of the waterpump, is attached using bolts. Either those bolts screw directly into the waterpump snout (threaded) or the bolts go through it and have attachment nuts on the backside. Have you ever worked on a motor B4?

actually it refers to whether or not there is a threaded heater hose fitting on the water pump. please pay no mind to my arrogance.

Ya beat me to it. Check and see if there is a heater hose that runs directly to the waterpump. If so, it is threaded.

I recently changed my water pump on my 1989 S-10 blazer 4.3 and I don't recall there being a threaded heater hose. All the hoses just slipped on and a hose clamp was used to secure them.

Whenever I've changed a water pump, I've always turned in a core. Have the old pump in hand when you walk in and kill 2 birds with one stone. It's always easier to match up a part than it is to guess.
