I just got my new radiator, upper and lower hoses and thermostat, because mine has a quarter-size hole near the base that leaks a good deal, and am ready to install them in the morning. My question is about the trans cooler lines that run to the rad. If I leave the holes unplugged on the rad, and run the trans lines to my new aftermarket cooler, would the rad leak fluid through the open holes? Or is the trans cooler run on it's own fluid circuit? Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks.

Trans is on its own circuit.. won't leak any rad fluid.

Is removal or the old rad hard? And I believe I can no longer run my truck without an aftermarket cooler, because the steel line that returns the fluid appers to be stripped, since it will not go back in the rad, and will only accept the new cooler's hose fitting. Or maybe the rad is stripped? It will only accept the new fitting as well.

R&R isn't too bad.. while the rad's draining remove the upper 1/2 of the fan shroud, undo the trans, oil lines & rad hoses, now you can take out the rad. Be sure you keep those rubber donuts it rides in. Install is just the reverse.. takin your time this should take about 45mins to an hour.

One last Q. To drain it, just remove that little plug at the bottom of the rad, correct? If I do this, though, the way it's set up on mine, it would drain all over the frame rail, as it's in the way. Or, could I remove the lower hose and drain it that way?

Lower hose would be a much better way to drain the system.

Sweet. Thanks. So just remove it from the rad itself, or from the water pump? Sorry for all the questions.

i always get a small hose i think 5/16" and attach it to the drain of the rad. then put the other end in the catch pan. i got tired of cleaning the coolant off the floor.
