I could use everyones tips and or tricks. I am attempting to unpack one of my leaf springs to replace a broken leaf (i have never done so would like to do instead of buying another) For some reason i cannot remove the pin. I have tried everything i know (which isn't much regarding this) and still unable to do it. Any and all help is appreciated.

Support the axle w/ a jack stand, undo the U-bolts, lower the axle on the side you're r&r'n the spring, slide the spring 'clamps' away from the rear end housing, drop the leaves, replace the spring that's bad.. to put everything back reverse instructions.

I have done that and the spring is free. but on the bottom it looks as though there is a "tappered" bolt on the pin running through the center of the springs

Two things...
1. If you do one side the other will probably have to be done. With a new leaf in one side the truck will probably not sit even.
2. Now that one leaf has broken there is a very good chance that the others are not doing well. When a leaf on my passenger side broke I decided to replace both leaf packs and man was that a good idea. When removing the driver side pack it had a fracture in it, that would have sucked going 70 mph with a load in the bed.
Try to find a good spring shop, one that does everything from S10s to Mack trucks. Got mine from a shop like that for $100 a pop, much better then the dealer.
