My Cousin told me that if i throw aftermarket/performance headers on my 03 Blazer with the 4.3 i would blow the engine, is this true or was he blowing my horn?

I've never heard anything like that.

there is a chance that if you run JUST headers and don't connect them to the rest of the exhaust you can float valves....but not if you put the headers on the truck then attatch everything....only if you are planning on running open headers would there possibly be a chance of problems....lots of people run headers...hell every car you watch turn left on sunday has headers on it...if they put headers on a million dollar car....you can be sure you'll be ok....just don't run open headers only

By someone generalizing and saying 'blow the engine', automatically makes me realize that person doesnt know a whole lot and is just running their mouth. Like everfalling said, you really got to run open headers and be doing high RPM to float a valve and cause disaster. But Im sure your local sound laws and/or emissions will keep you from running them open. As well as the lack of it being on the open highway 24/7 at high RPM.

I don't want to hijack this thread but since we are talking about headers....I've always heard that open headers can float valves....never actually seen it happen....but I have been to some derbys and no matter what class they are running almost everyone just puts stacks out the hood about 6 inches....if open headers will float valves than wouldn't derby trucks and cars float valves a lot? cuz they are at some decent RPMs for a lot of the run....guess if you had a valve floating you might not notice it since ya just totaled the car but.....hmmm....any input would be appreciated

If so it's because the exhaust is freed up & the valve springs aren't up to the task.. put better valve springs in & you shouldn't even have that problem.. BTW, Kid, your cousin is blowin about as much smoke up your ass as sittin on a chimney from hell. haha.
