anybody no the limit as to HP for the stock rear end and drive shaft on a 2002 blazer. i have a few mods as you can see and when i lauch off the line afterwards i get this little noise comming from back there somewhere. it does it when i go into reverse and it sounds like u joints. it doesn't click or anything it just sounds like "ting" like if you tapped the driveshaft with a wrench(quietly). i had my brother replicate my lauch as i watched the rearend and it tweaks upwards badly. i am going to get some traction bars, only problem is nobody makes them for my blazer. tried lakewood, comp.engineering, summit, none for the 2002, i asked all of them if the 98,99 is the same and they said no. any body out have a 2002 with traction bars on it?
i personaly wouldn't try to push it past 250rwhp, but i don't really thinck their is a set limit. I've seen someone put over 400hp to a 7.25 rear end and have no problems, but the vast majority of us start scattering center chuncks at just shy of 300. As for the driveshaft just have a spare if you plan on drag raceing. The yokes could use some beefing up so may look into haveing a custom driveline made. It's not as exspensive as you may thinck to have a driveshaft shop fab you one up.
ask sparky about trac. bars, he can tell you what you want to know

Anybody who makes a S10 disigned bar will work. Even the universals which I wouldnt recommend using!! 02 has nothing to do to the fact other than they havent tried them on one. All 96+ have the same suspension setup, so they will work. Cal Tracs are by far the best, but cost!!!

The cheapy bolt-ons handle my 1.65 60' times with no problem. See the posts I put in the racing section for the suspension stuff. Very interesting reading.
The 7 5/8 rear end you have is good 'til you start going 12's. That's when they start breaking, generally around a 1.80 60' time or better. They'll survive in the 11 and 12 second range with a solid pinion spacer and a cast cover with carrier cap pre-load screws. I belive TA makes both products.
As for your noise, the more miles on the vehicle, the more backlash on the ring gear. This can cause a "ting" noise when dropping in gear or going from reverse into drive (and vice versa). The only proper way to inspect U-joints is to remove the shaft and run the U-joints through their full travel. You'll feel it if their bad.

How much difference between the 7.5 and the 7.625 rears? Reason I ask is that the last 7.5 rear (stock w/3.27 ratio) I used bent the case and smoked the diff. on a 14.5 sec. camaro ('87) that put out 1.90 60' times.
I didn't even consider using the 7.5 in my S10 after that, especially when I could get a 9" put together for around $1500.

The biggest difference is the axles. 26 spline vs. 28 spline.
Rhansen, I would think the rear was already going south if a 1.90 sixty did that. The biggest problem we have is the small pinion on the 4.10 gears flexing in the case and stripping teeth. The solid spacer and the adjustable cover is supposed to solve that. Guys on the Camaro/Firebird boards swear by them and claim to run 10's with them.
I've never done it though. Got enough 12 bolts around to not have to.

It took about 2 1/2 years to bend the case. Couldn't get a diff. to last much more than 18 mos. though. Coulda been a lemon, either way I got tired of wasting money on it.
When it let go for the last time I was in the 4th round of eliminations of a $1500 to win bracket. I was having visions of 1/2 pound of C4 and a video camera.

thanx for the info guys. i plan on getting a custom made drive shaft from denny's drive shafts in feb. when i get my headers, custom exhaust, nitrous, shift kit,and servo. i think i will need the DS. sparky, you hit it right on the head about my noise. jedi master thanx for the trac bar info. every one i called said it won't fit. i said the suspension is the same and they say not necessarily. does a trac bar have any effect on the ride quality. and 1 more question on the regular trac bar the rumber bumper on it, where does that hit, does it hit the leaf springs and stop the diff. from tweaking. that also stops wheel hot when do pwr breaks right?
I've lakewood universals on my 03. I had to make a 1/4" shim to slide between the the rear backet and spings because the bumps hung too far from the springs. I still have 300 miles left on the warrenty so I'll actualy be gettin rid of the trac bars infavor of a 4 link and dana 60 or 9" soon, Provided I can figure out how to get 400hp out of an N/A vortec v6 without sacrificing too much milage and dependabilty.

Thats the same rear I had in the '91 w/3.42 and a factory limited slip. Blew the ring gear 3 times and finally blew the old G80 thats why I sold the truck and got the new X. All that crap and I had about 250HP at the fly (maybe).
Personally I got a line on an 8.5" for her.

I dynoed 232 rwhp with a 75 shot of juice...... After the dyno I cranked it up to a 100 shot, put on headers and put on an AEM Brute Force intake so I'm guessing i'm getting close to 300 rwhp... I don't have any drivetrain problems yet ***knock on wood*** I beat the crap out of my truck too...... HAHAHA....

Man I drove the crap outta the old brick bullet when I blew the G80 I was goind sideways into a U-turn smoking the meats and BOOM! had to get towed home and when I pulled the cover there were huge chunks of metal the wife got mad when I started talking about an 8.5" and said just get a new truck so I bought the X and now I'm gonna get an 8.5" hahaha shes pissed but I don't care :D
I've snaped a dana in half with just shy of 400hp
and the help of a concrete drainage ditch. I learned a very important lesson that day: An 8000lb 4x4 cherekee won't fly no matter how drunk you are.
lol.
Nope. Not without serious structural modification. . .

Got me some 98s10 lakewood trac bars and they work great. Just had to get a 4* wedge and alot smaller bump stops. I called the manufacture to tell them thanx for telling me that the trac bars won't fit my 02 blazer but I bought them any way and they fit just fine. Told them they may be loosing business because they don't update the fittment of their products.
