Alright,
How does one go about removing this?

what is the diffuser?
Diffuser Removal (throttle blade butterfly)(96+ years)
That's what it said in the little V-6 Bolt-on mod list stickied at the top of the page. I figure I'll start with a cheap mod. Mostly because I am broke due to another hobby.

You take the throttle body off the truck. You drill out the 2 rivets that hold the defuser plate onto the throttle plate. You can use screws and nuts, damaging the thread beyond the nuts so they cant fall off. JB weld the holes or something along those lines to seal the main rivet holes off. It can be done on the truck but I say no. If anything falls into the intake and you cant find it all and get it out, it'll do damage and removing it is simple!!

oh is that what that thing is called. i took that off several months ago. saw that in there when i put my K&N intake on and said thats got to go. so i drilled out the rivets took that diff. off and put some rivets back in. gives the intake a nice throaty sound with K&N attached. CFM tech sells the butterfly(TB blade) with it already off, but it doesn't cost anything to remove it yourself.
Ah.
Anything else I should do the the throttle body while I have it off?
May as well do it all at once, save the labor of putting it on and taking it off.

clean it with a little carb/TB cleaner. if it has black stuff all in it.

Yes spray it down and clean it up. ALso use the spray inside the intake, take a good look, you'llsee why!!
Alright.
Should I polish it?
Or just leave it alone?

Polishing doesnt help in a dry intake design!! Some turbulence is a good thing!
Ah
Alright.
Eventually I am going to stick a K&N Intake on it I think.
But that ain't till at least this summer.
Any other simple mods I can do for free/real cheap?

Can you work with and get a piece of 1/4 inch alum or steel. EGR restriction mod!!
New muffler of freeier flow using the old stock system parts! Not cheao, but not costly either.
4.7K ohm resistor between the IAT lines if you live where it dont get over 85 alot.
I can do a bit of basic metal work.
What all is involved with the EGR restriction mod?
And I think I'll redo my exhaust. What is the best dia pipe for the Blazer's exhaust? I have fabricated my own exhausts before, just need advice on the dia and basic design. Should I clone the stock pipe? Thinking about adding a Flowmaster 40 at the same time. (I have indirect access to 3 different garages, as my bro is into the ricer thing. :yuck_125: )

EGR mod simply put. Copy the gasket as best you can, make the inlet side of the center hole 5/32s in diameter. That valve side a 1/2 inch. Add a new SET of gaskets to it and bolt it on.
2 1/2 inches on the exhaust, stock is 2 1/4 muffler back!

To add to this instead of buying a K&N intake just make your own or buy a cheapy. You can make one easliy or get the Airaid intake the replaces the stock airbox. It even has a heatshield. It's half the price as the K&N and will do just as much good.If you want fab your own I can get you some real detailed info and pics that are real simple to do.And I don't think you have a egr since yours is a 02.Exhaust Jedi allready awnsered. If you do go with a Flowmaster get the new super 40.It's supposed to out flow the old 40 series by quite a bit and sound more throaty.
Well,
I have a 96. Dunno if it has an EGR. Think it does.
I could probably fabracate a CAI. Just got to get to a pipe bender.

Oops I got you and Leadfoots posts confused lol.Yes yours does have a egr and the egr mod will be one of the best mods you will ever do.Do it and the diffusor mod at the same time for best results. And you don't need a pipe bender just some pvc or abs 3inch plastic pipe.I would recommend abs.You can get the K&N style cone filter almost anywere for cheap. Then for a heat shield you can use sheetmetal or something thick enough that it will hold shape and form. I saw one the other day made out of plexiglass that was a good clean job.
Could I just use some 3 inch stainless steel, and forgo the Heatshield?
Got pics of a CAI I can use as a pattern?
Whats a good refrence book/manual for the Blazer?
Maximus

It's not really the heat soak in the pipe you want as much as the heat shield for it to block the hot under hood air from getting sucked in.The shield will only let the cooler air from the headlight area to enter the intake.I will get some pics posted here soon of a homemade install to use as a refrence.
Oh.
D'oh.
Sort of a box for the filter to sit in.
I was thinking a Heatsheild to protect the PVC. . . .

It's ok you got the idea now.I will still get some good pics up for you to see it in detail.
Thanks.
I hope to get it done over break.
Hopefully I can get pics of my Blazer posted. Nothin fancy, but eh.

Here is a cheapy that will work fine and all you would have to do is make your own heatshield.I just can't see paying big money for a simple mod. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=38634&item=7940161578&rd=1#ebayphotohosting
Hmm.
Interesting.
Seems like I can make a heatshield easily. Would sheetmetal work? Use the stock box as a pattern, adapt it to allow for better airflow, and less restriction.
Hmm.

Sheetmetal will work fine just fab it were it doesn't let any air from under the hood in.Im gonna post a pic of the K&N intake. One look at it will give you an idea what you need.Look at it this way that cheap intake is 17 bucks. Then all you need to do is make the heatshield which will cost very little to make just mostly the effort to fab it up.Here is a pic of the way to much to buy K&N FIPKII.http://www.sicgmtrucks.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=249&stc=1
Hmm,
Interesting.
I figure I can rig something up. Hell, it can't be that hard. (Famous last words. . . )
And can anyone give me the base specs (HP and torque at rear wheels) for the 4.3l engine? Kinda like to know where I am at, to set a goal to work towards.
(ETA: Nevermind, found it. Says I have the 'W' VIN engine, so it supposedly has 190 hp @4400rpm and 250 ftlbs at 2800 rpm)

Average and really it DEPENDS on the dyno, but 140+ or- h.p., 200= or - ftlb has been posted up and down the internet!

Personally I dont like screwin around with "homemade stuff" as I have been known to screw up an oil change a time er 2 LOL! but anyways this is why I have opted to look into the Volant Cold Air Intake system and a possible MAF if they ever get one to work with the Volant.
Well,
Depending on how my finances work out, I may buy a K&N or other factory CAI. If not, I'll make one.
I am pretty good (At least I'd like to think so) with mechanical things, been building rifles, remotely piloted vehicles, and the like for a while.
So, the list of mods is now:
Diffuser removal
EGR restriction mod
CAI
What else can I do easily/cheaply?
I really appreciate the help guys.

If you do want to just by one I highly recommend the Airaid inatek. It is half the cost of the K&N and works the same.I will post pics. There is a thread that has all of the best to worse mods here on V6 forum. It might be a sticky if not it needs to be.Here is a pic of the Airaid. It just replaces your stock filter box and has a heatshield too.http://www.sicgmtrucks.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=315&stc=1

It is a sticky.Go to the V6 section and at the top is a bolt on list sticky. There you will find what works and what don't and the results you will get.It is a great write up.http://www.sicgmtrucks.com/forum/showthread.php?t=540
Yep.
Been looking at that for ideas.
Good info.
I have some other ideas, but only time and more research will help me decide if it is possible and worth doing.

What does the resistor in the IAT lines do. I live in FL gets over 85 all the time what would this do for me. Question???? If I made the computer think the air going in was coller than it really is what would happen?
Alright,
Got another stupid question.
How do you remove the !@#$ Throttle body?.
I see 2 bolts, and after I took them off I still couldnt get it off. . .
OBI WAN

2 bolts in front, one center in the rear that also holds the bonnet top on.
The resistor of 4.7Kohms 1/2 watt tricks the OBD2 into a partial 57 degree tune. It tricks the OBD2 into thinking its 57 out and then it'll add timing based on the other sensors input!!
Thanks,
I'll play around with it tommorow. (I have off till the 8th of January, and am bored outta my mind. . . .) Hell, I may do a photo write up how-to for the site. . .
