View Full Version : Running ritch code 45
Help:shake_125
1993 cpi 4.3. You all know the one. I need to know how to tell if the spider is bad. I have a new o2 and replaced the nut kit and good for 2500 miles. Now when at 60 miles a hour for 5 min the ses light comes on. When I slow down in the city it goes out. Put my cheep scaner on it and its a code 45. I have a new o2 so I opened the plenum and it's not washed out. So I was wondering if the spider is leaking or just dumping to much fuel in the cyclenders.

When in doubt check vacuum lines first
Here is another problem. When the key is on to check codes and I go to start it up is is flooded. It has to turn over a little to start.
Trouble Code 45 indicates that the O2 sensor is showing a persistently low exhaust oxygen content (rich), despite the efforts of the ECM to decrease injector on-time (thus decreasing fuel delivered).
Typical causes for this code include:
1) O2 sensor defective or contaminated (if incorrect RTV sealant or too much RTV is used, this may happen)
2) Leaking fuel injectors
3) Fuel pressure too high
4) EMI interference from poor plug wires
5) Evaporative Emission system defect
6) TPS and/or EGR problem
7) MAF sensor reading higher airflow than is actually present
If the fuel lines are leaking, then it should look washed out on the driver's side.... Just curious, if you think it is dumping fuel into the cylinders, have you pulled a plug to see what it looks like?
I have not looked at the plugs yet. When I changed the nut kit it was washed out on the drivers side. It has a new egr valve and it is clean.
I think the spider is the one that came on the truck new back in 1993.
If I turn the key on with motor off then try to start it, it is flooded.
So I am going to open it up again to see if it is washed out.
I think that something is leaking gas in the intake.
But What if it is not washed out? Would that be a bad spider?
I changed the spider valve and bingo.......
It runs like a new one. It had no washout in the intake. I see that it don't matter witch popit valve goes in what hole. I put the new one in and put them in order. The one I took out was not.
I took it up on speed for 20 miles at 65 miles an hour and came back at 80 and no ses light. I can't smell the gas out the tailpipe any more.
Cool i am so happy. :) :) :)
