I found an X at a wrecker this morning that only had 4500 kms on the odometer. Got the steering box ($140), front bilsteins ($60 for the pair) and the whole rear sway bar assembly ($65). They're taking it all off for me now (it's not a u-pull), I'll get some pics when I pick it all up. The shocks and steering box look mint.

I think I got a pretty good deal, I had considered paying that much off the forums for part from higher milage trucks but I couldn't swallow the shipping costs to Canada. The guy at the counter looked a little dumbfounded when I started naming part #'s and prices - he mostly just nodded his head and said "ok"!

My steering box is still leaking after a new pitman arm seal and my front shocks haven't felt right since the ZQ8 coils went on so those are "maintenance parts". The rear sway bar was just an impulse buy :D !

Any idea what a good price is for used leaf springs? I was going to grab those and the rear shocks too but I'm still debating whether or not I want to give up the towing capacity of the Z85 springs. opinions?

and one more thing - there was a mint red/grey typhoon in the parking lot, apparently belonging to the owner of the yard!

If you like the ride right now and tow/haul with it, then keep the Z85 springs. The shocks could be doable since you lowered it with blocks.

it would feel pretty nasty to get whooped on by an aqua suv...lol

I'll see what I can do on the syclone! aqua would be sweet. the average joe in his rig-rocket (i.e. the lifted superduty/ram 3500/silverado HD that the rig-pigs drive to the oil fields) would never expect to get dusted by an aqua green 1992 jimmy.

back on topic here...

I put on the OEM bilsteins I picked up the other day - took maybe 40 mins. Holy crap what a difference! its hard to describe how much better the ride is. I'm not sure if my old shocks were shot or whether they just didn't like the 1" drop from the ZQ8 coils but the difference is night and day. some pics of my morning:

check out the difference in the lower mounts between the stock shocks and the bilsteins

Fun fun now you'll be able to get that nice car ride. Did it improve your turning ability also?

they definately helped with handling control. the old ones didn't do a good job of taking up bumps in turns. I think the ZQ8 steering box will help out alot once I get it in. the nice ride up front really has me thinking of buying the rear leafs and bilsteins and ditching my Z85 leafs....

Nice...What leafs are you thinking of putting in? I've been kind of stuck on that part of my suspenstion. I'm going mostly with belltech stuff and wondering about control arms also. Any ideas on upgrading steering shafts?

I was thinking of taking the ZQ8 leafs and shocks off of the xtreme that I got the steering box/front shocks/rear swaybar off of.

I think I'd have to ditch the 3" blocks for a 1" to level it out. I also thought about 3" belltech leafs/drop shocks but I really want good ride quality and I think that the OEM zq8 combo will deliver.

Right now I have 4 leafs plus an overload and the zq8's I've seen are 2 plus an overload. I would imagine that makes a huge difference in ride quality.

Yah I went with the belltech rear sway but if I could of found a X I'd of taking it off it when they wern't looking I'm just afraid if I do the drop leafs it maynot be able to hold anything but then again with that and a smaller block I won't have to cut the bump stops off atleast I hope so. The drop shocks you were looking at where those the Nitro 2's?

I have a zq8 leafs and nitro2's on my truck and they hold up well. You can't put a tonne of crap in the bed, but for the average haul you can get away without bottoming out on the bumpstops
