It all started a few weeks ago when i put seafoam in my gas tank. My Blazer started to run really ruff to the point where at idle it would die after a few seconds at idle. So i drove home using netrual at stop signs and kept the engine around 2000 rpm. When i got back it idled fine and there were no problems. We today when i pulled into a parking lot after driving for a little while it started surging and running really ruff again. So after i come out of the store i start it and it is still running bad then i pop the hood pushed on the throttle and it started to idle fine? But then it started again when i stoped again. It runs fine at above 1500 RPM but it will not idle. Then after i drive a while i start to get a code 32. Is there a way to clean the egr with out taking it off because the ones on the CPI are a pain to get to and it is cold out in the parking lot. Could this be more than just the egr?

Nope sounds like youve loosened alot of carbon up is why it idles like it does and also 32 codes. Needs to be removed and the ports all cleaned out along with blowing it back down the tube into the exhaust!!

well i checked the codes again and it is also throwing me a code 33 which is the map sensor. Would this be caused because of the egr messing with the manifold vacum?

the egr comes off in minutes...id take it off and see if you can get some carbon out of it 1st

If you really want to solve the cronic Vortec V6 EGR drivebility issues, there is a GM Technical Service Bulletin that calls for a minor reprogram of the prom. This reprogram allows the linear EGR to open 100% on a brief timed basis and raises the RPM range in which the EGR begins to open. These two changes resolve the carbon lodging in the seat of the pintle valve, which creates the effect of a large vacuum leak at idle. The increased rpm for EGR "tip in" creates higher velocity flow through the EGR passageways. The valve blipping open fully allows the particles of carbon to be evacuated. My 1994 S10 was reprogrammed at 69,000 by the dealer and now has 160,000 miles on it with no EGR issues. It ran so much better after this service, I was mad that I tolerated some of the symptoms for as long as I did. I gave my copy of the TSB to my friend in Myrtle Beach who has the identical truck so he could get similar problems resolved. The prom work takes twenty minutes to complete. I'll try to post the details and bulletin # soon

have you found that number yet because the crappy egr cloged again and i even had run seafoam through the intake fuel and oil a week ago. If i can't get it reprogramed i am thinking about fabing up a EGR Spacer with steel mesh to filter out large chunks of carbon. Does this sound like a idea that will work?
i had this problem a long time ago when i seafoamed my truck the first time, check and make sure the diaphragm is good. mine was bad, so my truck would idle like a really cammed big block, sounds cool, but not drivable. just get a new egr they are like 10 bucks

just get a new egr they are like 10 bucksNot for a CPI engine they are a little pricey.
hmm, well guess my 2.8 wins again, hey it might be slow, but it is cheep!
If you have a vacume diafram type your looking at 30-40bux for a new one
if you have a electronic lienier valve your look at 110-160bux
I thinck the 93 4.3's have the exspensive one
I actuall support a restrictor plate or if possible a complete block off of the egr valve on GMs. It's the only emission device I support bypassing though. It's probally the most power resticting emmisions device on an engine outher the old pellet type cats, but cats can be upgraded to have virtully no effect on HP the egr is a differnt story. working perfectly you lose 2-3 hp with the egr valve in bad shape I've seen one car lose up to 11 hp(it has to be in really bad shape and leaking for this to happen though)
yes most parts for the cpi engine are alittle more expensive. and yes the egr is a pain in the *** to do. its under a couple of things. you can do it without removing them but its real hard to get to. I cant even remember what you have to work around but i could go check my truck.
extention, swivil, 10mm socket... I can pull it without removing anything more than the accelerator cable..:D

Here is a link to egr valves at Advanced/Parts America"same franchize" auto parts. That is if that's your problem.http://www.partsamerica.com/SelectParts.asp?PTSet=A&PartType=282&Description=Emissions&SourcePage=PartTypes&SearchFor=EGR+Valve&st=2&so=0&begin=1
for that price it better have a midget in the box that puts it on for you.

Ok, I found my receipt for EGR service on my 1994 S10 SS. The GM special policy number is 96067A. This bulletin refers to the PROM change that allows the EGR to cycle to 100% and purge any trapped foreign material from the pintle valve seat. It also raises the RPM in which the EGR begins to open. This PROM change was made to my truck at 69,000 miles. I now have 152,000 and have had ZERO EGR issues. It is the real fix for this problem.
