Here are some interesting ZR2 Facts

Not all S-Series 4WD's are ZR2's, and not all ZR2's are 4WD's.
The ZR2 option was never offered with any of the Crew Cab, 4-Door Blazer, or GMC Jimmy (USA) models.
All ZR2 Pickups and Blazers were manufactured with a Vortec 4.3L 6 Cylinder engine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM_Vortec_engine).
The S10 ZR2, GMC Highrider, and many Blazer ZR2's feature Insta-Trac (three-button) 4WD. The Blazer ZR2 was also offered with the option of Auto-Trac (four-button) 4WD.
Being that the ZR2 featured a full size spare tire and the Blazer lacked considerable space both underneath and inside the cab; an exterior mount was created for the ZR2 Blazers. The mount was placed at the rear of the vehicle overlapping the tailgate and rear glass, this created a severe blindspot. To remedy the situation a small company manufactured a lowering kit that would relocate the mount a few inches down.
A ZR2 equipped S-Series vehicle is worth several thousand dollars more than a non-ZR2. Therefore ZR2 decals are commonly used on non-ZR2's in attempts to trick an un-informed buyer into spending more money. This practice is especially common among online marketplaces and independent Auto dealers. ZR2 verification can be done by checking the RPO tag affixed to the inside of the glove compartment.Information from Wikipedia

wasn't until the newer models I believe early 200_ something
I had an aruement with a dealer about it, after I did my research on the ZR2 when I wanted one badly. I think he understood it when I stood my ground and bet him and check it on his computer.

A 2WD ZR2 I believe should only be used for show... my personal opinion
I'll be lifting mine with a 6" suspension and SFA when ever I have the money.

2004 - ZR2 only available on Blazer models. In a shocking move, for the first time the ZR2 is offered with a 2WD model.

Pre runner. You can get more travel out of a 2WD and the ZR2 is wider.

If you wanted the extra clearance...say you live on roads that are hilly in the backwoods but dont need 4wd, like the higher view =), live near water prone flood area, are in a 2wd Baja class, etc

Also, most ZR2's got an iron front diff, not aluminum!
Though, there is some with the aluminum diff, unfortunately...

I'm lucky enough to have the iron front diff, and 8.5" rear in a non-ZR2 package, lol.

does anybody know what the 2wd drive zr2 has to fit 31's? does it have the same setup as a regular 2wd in the front?

I don't think it's quite the same... The ZR2 has a wider wheel track, and the a-arms and the frame are also different...

It is basically the same set-up as the 4wd... it uses a 4wd suspension and torsion bars, just is missing the front diff, axles, t-case and front driveshaft. It has different spindles. This is the same thing they did with the 3/4 ton HD 2wd trucks and the 2wd S10s from Brazil.
