hello I'm new to the site.just bought a 85 s10 with a 2.8v6.the problem is.it will start and run but only if somebody is holding the front choke flap just in the right spot.If you don't it dies and wont start.it does have a electric fuel pump on it.tore the top off the carb and the accel pump rubber is tore in two.now do you think my problem is the carb?or is it getting to much fuel pressure?and one last thing.the hole where the mechanical pump was in the block leaks a little oil.should i plug it?or just put a mechanical pump back on it?and maybe does anybody know where i can get a carb for it?has to be the electric one.or can i put a normal carb on it that doesn't have plug ins on it?thanks for any help and sorry for the looonng post:)

Welcome to The PLANET!!! Is it orig a carb or FI truck? Is there a FP regulator? What kind of pump is it? IMO, either leave it mechanical or block it and have a regulator with the fp and a gague to see what the fp is. Just buy a rebuild kit for the carb. They are not as hard as they look. What model carb?

not sure looks like it is orig carb.has the factory wires that plug into the carb.has no fp reg that i can see.just bought the truck today so don't know alot about it.pump is a little square one that is in the frame about 2ft from the tank if that helps at all.where can i buy a blocker plate for it?and where is a good place to find a carb that isn't over priced?thanks for the help
factory pump is an electric in the tank, same one used for the TBI trucks since the pressures are about the same. Is the choke blade closing and not opening? Accel pump will also def. cause said problem

so the factory fuel pump is in the tank even if it is carbarated?not trying to sound dumb just trying to make sure.and what did they do where the mech pump went just block it off?i think I'm just going to buy a new carb now.but still need to figure the pump thing out.if it is supposed to be thet way i will leave it.thanks t man
WAIT
Just pulled out the ole haynes manual and it does list a mechanical pump for the carbed vehicles.
