little problem

hi guys i have a little problem.have a 85 s-10 with the 2.8.was running kind of rough on the bottom end.driving it home today and it blew a little smoke and now it won't sun for crap.top speed is 35.and feels like i have no vacuum when i push on the brake.any help would be sweet.

now it will only run if you hold the gas pedal to the floor.and as soon as you let off it dies.please somebody knows whats wrong

Sorry, that's way beyond my lack of expertise. In electronics, the magic black smoke is what makes the components work the way they are supposed to, so if the magic black smoke gets out, the component isn't going to work anymore.

Could have thrown a rod, dropped a valve, convertor is blocked.. what are some more symptoms you're experiancing?

yep converter was plugged!!!just cut it off.little loud now.but runs way better.

one more question.why would it run good till it is good and warm and then run like crap?and the exhaust manifolds get red hot.bout ready to just sell this thing.

Could have a lean mixture. That would explain why the manifolds get 'red hot'.. they're glowin red, right?

ya glowin red but only after it is about 190 deg or so for a minute.so maybe after the choke turns off it runs lean?

sounds lean to me. Lean is what killed the cat too

Could be a few things that's makin it run lean.. 1st, was this happening before and/or after you cut the cat off?

Yea.. looks like Mike beat me to it.. it may have been lean before because of it runnin like crap & now that the cat's off you can see the manifolds glow because the engine's not plugged up anymore.

so any ideas?maybe plugged up carb?maybe try some sea foam in the tank or carb?thanks for the help

didn't notice it before i cut the cat off.but also never really looked.

advanced the timing today.and it seemed to help it doesn't get hot so far.
