So, as you may or may not know, UAW and GM were on the bargaining table for a few weeks on a new contract. Monday was the deadline that UAW put forth and a walk out occured at all the GM plants. This included all Engine Assembly, Powertrain, Vehicle Final Assembly, Parts Warehouse Centers, Etc. I saw about it Monday morning and thought not to much of it, other than this happens regularly with union negotiations and will only have impact if it goes on for more than a few weeks. I heard that the surplus vehicle inventory is good enough to last for a month and the dealerships have nothing to worry until then. But today I found out something that wasnt expressed in the media and wanted to point out. As some of you know I am rebuilding my 700R4/4L60 in the TransAm. I found that my drive gear (one inside clipped on the tailshaft) had a coupe teeth broken. Knowing from the past that my best and only bet is to get it from my buddies at the GM Parts Center here at one of our dealers. Went in there to day to find some bad news. The part I need is InStock over at the Jacksonville,Florida GM Parts Warehouse. But due to the strike, there isnt an employee there to ship it here. DANG!! Only if the Dealer has the part, can you get anything from them right now. Or if they can find it from another dealership. We have 2 Chevrolet dealers here but either had my part. Just a heads up and a little info on how it all trickles down. Who really looses out....the little guy! UAW is going after Chrysler and Ford next for a contract renegotiation. GM is struggling (so they say..the executives dont seem to be hurting for money) and Chrysler hasnt been doing well either. This strike is futher hurting GM. I just feel that the prior finaces, this strike and the ongoing ignorance of Americans who buy Foriegn Owned CRAP are going to cause GM to make more cuts. Since the last time thay chose to reduce the Oldsmobile lineup, staffing and eventually just axed them, I feel that the next in line is Buick. The only thing Buick has going for it is the strong overseas sales. I think its Japan or China, where Buick sells the mose cars. Buick just has in recent years seemed to have the least models, advertisements and overall sales of all the GM lines. Back to Chrysler.....the company that now ownes them has seemed to put them back on track for the moment. But well see how their negotiations go. If they get to a point where a strike happens, who knows what they will go through. Ford seems to be stable now, so they should fair well. Anyone have anymore input or opinions?

Well possible good news, strike is over for now, tentative agreement has been reached:

If the agreement isn't approved by the Union vote, then they may go back on strike.

its a big flurry here in detroit... where of course the big3 have their corporate offices. thank god things are solved... that lil strike was costing our economy untold millions per day...

I know one of their parts suppliers was losing hundreds of thousands of $$ per day.. lets hope things get all wrapped up for good.
