The rear brakes make noise so bad that I can't even roll down the windows. Thinking that it's the worn out drums and pads, I replaced those along with all the springs, levers, etc.
It still squeeks. I'm pretty sure it's coming from the rear of the truck, but not 100%.
1994 GMC Sonoma, 4.3, manual, posi rear end, 153k. Front brakes where done about 2 years/25k ago.
Any help/thoughts?

Most of those are highway miles- I'm generally on a motorcycle most of the time. I'll probably take the front wheels off and check those brakes in the meantime though, just to be sure.
A.
Is it truly 'brake' noise?
Is it likely, with that many miles, that something else is making noise in the suspension?
Or possibly something rubbing in the rear brake housing(e-brake or backing plate).
What is the noise? At all speeds? Are brakes being applied during noise? Etc?

When I use the brakes, the squeek goes away and all is well. When I'm not on the brakes, it squeeks- this occurs at all speeds, it's definitly a rubbing of some sort, the squeek changes tone and pitch and frequency as the speed changes- slower speeds is a more drawn out lower pitched squeek, faster is a faster higher pitched squeek.

I would think it's your front brakes. Either the shims went bad or the coating (anti squeal). When you check the front take them apart, clean everything. Spray the back of the pads with anti squeal and lube the sliders.

yeah need to anti squeek the hell out of them.....anti seize on most of the resting points helps as well

u said it had a posi trac rear end? have you ever had 2 differend size tires at the same time? if so, that could be it because both shafts are turning at a different speed constantly instead of just in turns, which can seriously f**k your stuff up.

Never used two different sized tires- the spare is the same as the regular tires, so no issues there. Posi works well, always has.
I guess when I've got some time I'll take the front brakes apart and see what that shows me. Might as well bleed the system since I'm there, and I don't think that it's ever been done.
I'm with wild... use anti-squeek on the back of the pads. I'd only use high temp lube on the slides. Check the scrapers aren't too close, should be around middle of pad thickness.
What you can do.....(what I would do) Get both rear wheels off the ground and chock front tires and get it on jack stands. Have someone sit in it and start(make sure it's in 2wheel drive), put in gear, and listen for the squeek. Narrows it down to the problem wheel immediately. :) If no squeek, it's a front brake problem. Jack up front tires and rotate by hand to see if you can make it squeek. That simple.

I've got 55,000 miles on a five-year-old Blazer and I'm still running the original pads. I'm sure it all in driving style. I coast a far amount in an effort to save a buck or two on gas which also saves on the brakes.
