So I've a guy willing to give me a complete 1996 Vortec 4.3L engine vin W, from oil pan to valve covers, including CPI intake manifold, upper plenem and plastic Vortec plenum cover. All in the name of making room in his shop. it spun a rod bearing. so I plan a tear down, machining and rebuild with a new crank.

Just so I can plan on how much it would cost to build this motor for fun, (no application in mind)

whats the max I can bore the block? I see rebuild kits available with .060" over pistons. Is it possible to punch out that much without running too thin?

I don't see stroker cranks available, but maybe some one knows of a source?

Are these heads worth trying to obtain more flow, Ie; Port, polish & gasket match? (granted the heads aren't cracked or junk) Will the heads accept a 260ahr or 270ahr cam?

would you suggest a hypereutectic piston? I've got those in a v8 I built, no problems.

can I use a non-balance shaft motors crank in this block? will the mains line up and are the journals the same diameter?

If you wanted to build a 4.3L, what would you do to the blank canvas that is a engine core? I'm not planning on forced induction, however 6 individual carbs could be fun (and a nightmare to tune)

Man... I would shure like to have that black Vortec name plate... I'll trade you a silver one for it and I will pay shipping.

we'll see what happens.... if I get the motor, I'll have no use for the engine cover. You can have it

there are stroker cranks out there but you need to stay away from the speed-o-motive kit it's a offset ground crank read as weak the only good ones are billet read as $2500-$3000. Everything else will be standard fare check to see if it's cheaper to buy the SBC version of some things and keep the extra parts. But it can be fun and you'll need to research but I think you could swap your newly built short block into the silvy if so inclined. On the over bore usually the 60 over won't be a problem but I don't personally like throwing the extra cylinder wall material away for a few cubes it would be smart to have the walls sonic checked before going that far. If you are so inclined you could build it for a blower.... hint, hint, nudge, nudge say no more. lol

on a side note the the manifold is getting cut down for the prototype of my set up.

wasn't planing nitrous on this motor, I'm not building it for my silverado. I am however looking for a LS2 for that thing :P

You could port and polish them dude with the turbodime had his done =] This is like a science project!
