So I take my Vette to a local cruise-in here in Indy tonight. I hadn't had it out for a couple of weeks and she needed to stretch her legs anyway! It was a good turn out too. Finally it was time to go so I jump in but didn't feel like heading home just yet. I started driving west (I live east)... Cyclone by Baby Bash & T=Pain was thumpin' on da Bose Gold system.... and went 4-5 miles on a local 4 lane road(good cruisin' road). I noticed a coolant odor coming from somewhere. So, I'm looking around for the schmuck with the overheating problem.... then I see steam rising from under my hood... DOH! it was me!!!
Well by now I am in a bad part of town... had to pass through to get to the place where da hot chickies hang out. Well, I did a quick u-turn and headed towards home, now 10 miles or so. I had to pull into a gas station and pop the hood. Coolant was everywhere! CRAP! The gas station closed as I was looking under the hood so I took off down the road towards an Autozone that was a mile away. Temp was 247 degrees so I'm sweating it now...
I made it there and asked the guys for a flashlight so we started searching for the source. The guy looks up at me and says... "well there's yer problem right there" and points to my upper radiator hose. Big 1" hole blown out. And of course, Autozone in the bad part of town doesn't carry parts for a Corvette... but this guy is cool and says take the hose off and we'll size it up to what we have in stock for a close match. We actually found a very close match after cutting off a few inches, put it on and refilled with fresh 50/50. Cost for tonights fun... hose: $11, coolant: $5... driving away happy: priceless. :D
I was actually mad as hell because my Corvette club is hosting a 100+ car Corvette cruise to Brown County State Park this Sunday and I was thinking I wasn't going to be able to go.
So now I'm happy....
