Are you sure it isn't the sensor?

This will problably be about like the one a muffler shop will put on. Just under $54.. but then add s&h $65?

BTW, I changed your spelling of catalytic.

Which code? There is a Catalyst Effeciency which is read off the rear O2 sensor. po101 I think it is. They shouldve given you the readout reciept with the code on it.

there isnt any sensors after the cat is there? cuz i wanted to unbolt the pipe after the y-pipe and hear my truck with no cat or muffler, was wonderin if it would mess something up?

There is 1 sensor after the cat, but you can run without it if you want.

One time my exhaust fell off, and it was miserable sounding.

so it wont make the engine run like crap?, my muffler fell off while offroading due to a cheap weld, it had the cat still but it sounded alright.

No cat for me, it was an obnoxious drive home.

The rear sensor is soley for determining Catalyst Effeciency and will not harm the truck. Just throw on the ight. Those are why you can do sims back there. The 2 upstream (y-pipe) sensors are important tho. And alot of people pull the muffler and leave the cat. LMC I think had a straight pipe dual-out kit with no muff. The Cat acts as a resonator. I agree nothing but pipes behinf the 4.3 would sound like a$$

wow, thanks for the fast responds guys :D

the code is p0430 Catalyst Efficiency below threshold (bank 1)

so after a trip to Advance auto parts i can pick a new catalytic up and cut out the old one and put the new one in after re welding it or would i be better off paying the muffler shop?

If you can weld & trust yourself to cut... why not do it yourself & save the money?

Do you plan on replacing the o2 sensor too?

I had the same problem as you. I failed inspection because I threw 2 codes. 1 for the cat and the other for the o2 sensor. I bought a brand new o2 sensor with the intention to install it. The old one seemed like it welded itself into the exhaust...so i just gave up trying to remove it. I took it to a shop and they replaced the cat and o2 sensor. They told me the old cat was gutted (by the last owner) and thats why it threw a code.

lol i have no muffler on my truck but i still have the cat on tho, plus theres also a small leak on the right header cuz when we dropped the tranny i think the peice that goes inside the y-pipe going into the header is screwed up or something and i havnt gotten to fixing it yet, the truck sounds ok but i would def. like to get at least a good muffler on it plus probably a magnaflow cat as well

i dont think i will. i just failed the test too, stupid p0420 code, but now they are saying it isn't my cat its something else. so im going to have my step dad take it to his shop and run a complete test on the truck
