View Full Version : Still do not understand
I was having a prob with vibration at higher speeds and what seems to be wheel hop when I hit a bump. I have a stock 2000 Sonoma V6. I balanced tires, balanced drive shaft and changed rear link kit. It is still vibrating and hops when I hit bumps. 3 different garages say that all looks good (rear spring bushings, shocks). What is the problem? Should I still change the bushings and or shocks. Running out of money and need help.

have you changed your U-joints? Even if you've just changed them they could have been defective. I had one that only lasted 2 weeks once! every s-series I've ever had has eaten u-joints like nothing else. has the truck ever been in a wreck? something may be tweaked a little bit
I was rearended twice but like I said I just a couple of days ago had the drive shaft balanced and they also looked at the u-joints (replaced one) everything else looked good.

for the price of the 2nd U-Joint, i would replace it too...if ur having a driveline and driveability problem...you say ur having wheel hop issues aswell? Trucks almost 8 years old now, if the rear shocks havnt been replaced yet, i would look into replacing them.. As far as the vibration goes, you may have a belt starting to go in one of the tires. Is the vibration felt throughout the whole truck or just in the pedals and steering wheel? If its felt in the whole truck, try rotating the tires, front to rear, and see if the vibration is now felt more in the steering wheel. If the vibration is felt in the steering wheel right now, again, try rotating the tires, and see if the vibration moves to the whole truck...
My Factory Tires had defects from brand new, and I was able to follow the tire through its vibrations. The tire let me know if the dealership actually did rotate the tires or not..lol
Lemme know if this helps ya any..

I know it is not with the tires. I had the problem with my winter tires as well. Vibration is only felt in the rear. For example when I am on the highway I could see my box shake threw my side mirror. There are times where it is worse than others but still pretty constant.

I had a '93 longbox that was in a wreck when it was only 2 weeks old and it was never the same. 10 years later it still had weird shakes that I couldn't get rid of, probably a slight bend in the frame somewhere

Is it lowered, a ZQ8 and/or Ext cab?
Not lowered and Ext cab. I think that it is a ZQ8 but in the vin it does not have a Z. Although I do have the 16 inch wheels and the a rear stabalizer bar.
If I do have the ZQ8 suspension and I change my shocks should I get the Belltech which are already lowered or will that make it look like the back is on a slant.
Or should I start looking at a 3inch leaf spring replacement. If I did that would have to change the front as well? Would I have to get shims to keep the drive shaft at the right angle?

A ZQ8 doesnt have to be a Z VIN. It can be a 2.2 or either 4.3 motors. In your glovebox is a white sticker. Thats the RPO sheet and ZQ8 will be listed on there. The fact you have 16s stock and a rear sway bar would indicat that you probably do heve that suspension. There was a problem with extended cabs and ZQ8 that fit your discriptions. Read this link a little more and also try to contact GM about a recall if there is one. https://shell7.tdl.com/~jags/Pages/Parts_S10-Driveshaft-Align.html

Interesting...do you know if GM is or did anything about this? Like, as far as goodwill replacement or anything? Come to think of it, my cousin was complaining about a vibration 2 or 3 weeks ago...I passed him the link you posted..he is gonna call the dealer and find out and get back to me.

IDK about the recall. Suposedly GM had their own fix-it kit. But thats heresay
did there ever end up being a recall about this specif issue that was linked a couple posts up?

I'm having the same problem and I know it has to be my driveshaft. I just changed the u-joints last week. I had no problems before I changed them, but now I get crazy vibrations on 40+ mph.
It does feel good having my seats vibrate though lol ;)
I'll get around to looking at it when I have some free time.
