well i just ordered a throttle blade from cfm-tech, which i didn't know ne 1 made till i read about it here. thx 2 some 1 (if i remember rite it was mikz86TA) who posted a response to a question asked buy some1 else. now i can just change it out instead of grinding on it and possibly screwing something up. i all most bought the whole tb but it seems that the majority says it does really help. well thx guyz and ill report what i feel about it when i finally get it and then get it on.

You can screw it up just as bad either way if you drop a screw in the intake manifold.

I have a cut down one or a stock one I would of sold you for $10. Instead of paying for one of them. It requires the same amount of work to change it. Just that you grind off the deflector on the stock blade. Could of saved $30.

It not going to do all the much anyway except make off idle throttle effort a little easier. The throttle body is Way to big on these engines to begin with, thats one of the reasons its there. If you notice, it shares the same TB and throttle blade with the vortec 350 and 454, except the 350 has a smaller deflector stock. (they sell them on the same page)

Just to be safe, I would take the extra 10 minutes it takes to remove the whole throttlebody...honestly, its not a lot of work...3 bolts I think, and a couple brackets..

As Far as that deflector goes...someone correct me if Im wrong or whatever, but I think I remember reading somewhere that that deflector was put in there because in the early 4.3L Vortecs, people were complaining that their vehicles "Launched too Hard" at stopsigns and stoplights. GM's Fix for this was to restrict the initial airflow with this deflector.

Anyone else heard this or?

o well to late now,ne little improvement helps since theres not a whole hell of alota performance upgrades out there that make a big gains(outside of s/c,and n20)

yeah i plan on removing the tb, i dont wanna take the risk, its no big deal i did it when i put on the tb spacer, plus compared 2 the other mods ive done it should be a walk in the park

LOL, if that's true, then I'll take two!! Heck, I'd rather have the option to "launch too hard". B/c I know that I can control my foot if I really need to avoid that.

I seriously doubt it. I've taken blades off of '96s in the you pull it yard that still had them on it.

The TB is to big for this engine, when you cut off the blade you just shorten the amount of travel the throttle will have to before the engine can't use anymore of of its "flow capacity" ( i guess you can call it). So then the TPS sensor reading would be less than the amount of throttle input it would normally take get the max CMF.

It really just enhances the throttle response. True that GM in the persuance of making the majority of buyers happy and comfortable put it there to decrease the off-line throttle jump. Slick conditions arent fun for a RWD with a light rear end. But I know how to handle it as most of us here. Even at 60mph, the throttle jump is significant enough for me to notice.
As far as dropping a screw...thats a legit caution. But I was confident in ly experiences working on carbs 'on the car' to not worry. I used a magnetic tip torx. A magnet lying in the bore will be helpful too if you feel nervous. Or just take the unit off all together. Whatever floats your dingy

Hehehehe. Yeah Tom, I google it all and hope someone else had it right:D Every once in a while I stober and figure it out on my own. Mikz got something right??? WTF.... he musta been drunk!!! :D

What risk?
Taking off the TB, vs just removing the blade?
there is still going to be a big hole in the manifold that things can fall in.

removing the blade.. you take out both screws, put them in your pocket, rotate the Throttle and slide out the Blade. (no possible way or them to fall in the intake unless you open the blade while they are lying there).

removing the whole throttle body you would probably be more likely to drop something in, there will be a lot more nuts/ bolts and parts lying around.

DON'T FORGET BLUE LOCTITE ON THE THROTTLE BLADE SCREWS, its $5 for a small tube. Dont be Cheap... it isnt worth Ruining the motor over

good point, all though if i dicide to take the tb off i doubt ill be working on the tb over the hole thatd be kinda retarded. but im takin notes: magnet, loctite and use caution i think i got all that in the old tool box.

Where'd you get your caution from? I can't seem to find it the stores nowadays.. my tube of it is almost out.
