so i guess i have been without AWD for since that original post that i had, i took it to my mechanic and we pluged in his snap-on reader and we cannot get it to give a good connection, so no code for now....but it could read the engine and ABS parameters so he gave me the diagrams for my own benifit, i leave for florida on the 31st for 2 weeks he gets it for the two weeks.....any thoughts on where to check first, my dash light works...but somewhere before the diagnostic port the signal gets lossed, i plan on getting started on this tomorrow after work and i am just getting a game plan lined up
Thanks for any ideas, but could this be a sign that i can have a 2wd vehicle and manage perfectly....(F-body)...? lol, i think that it may be.......

Quite strange since typically AWD is AWD.... Have you started the truck when it's completely in the air (IE. On jack stands) and see if the front wheels are turning? I know that the selectrak is electronic but essentially it just balances load, overall it should still be in awd... That said I would eat 35 bux for a 1/2 hour diag at the dealer and see what they say and fix it yourself if possible.

good looking out rlith, i'll give that a shot in a bit, i'm letting the snow melting off of it now.....and i will toss it up on the stands and see if they all spin, but why won't the diagnostic equip. read why its having problems? my mechanic was leaning towards the modual going bad because of the way its looking so far........but i guess we'll have to see.....

It being AWD there is nothing to engage like true 4wd.I would do like rlith said.Im betting it's working. You would know quik if it wasn't while driving in snow.Fishtailing is easy in rwd only.

i had it up on jackstands and the front wheels were turning so i have power.....but why can't the diagnostic scanner pick up on the signal? i mean if it is a wire or something where should i start with the problem solving on the service AWD light coming off and on>? anythoughts would be awesome.........thanks alot guys

maximus, i do fishtail but i have to give it quite a bit of throttle though......so on jack stands it is working though...i thought it was but wasn't sure.......it just is slippery outside, so we'll get this down sooner or later....lol

We have a big snow storm heading our way.I hope we get 6 to 10 inches or better.I love snow,I get out in my truck and play in it as soon as I can.I throw the old chains on and load it down with bulldozer weights and im gone lol!!You all up north see a whole lot more than we do here but I still get giddy when it does snow.

****, I miss the northern snow. I moved to TX from OH. They've got that lake effect heading in now. We're supposed to get snow here tomorrow. Probably about an inch or so, but enough to shut down most of Dallas! :banghead_

makes me sad that an inch closes down other states...we have to at least 1 foot or so before they talk about it.........we only have about 4 now.....on top of the 3' or so we already had

You and me both. I remember seeing tire chains on the school buses growing up in OH! People around here really get stupid when it snows/ices/rains/fogs/anything.

you said the light was on but all wheels turn. i can only thinkof 2 things with that info: somehow, the light is on for no reason. and 2: withh the wheels off of the groudn there is less resistance on them so they are naturally gonna turn. just like if it was a 2wd truck with the drive axle off of the ground, you woudl accelerate VERY fast. i wld like sme more info out of ya (starts chinesse water torture) does it drive the same now as it did without the light on?

sorry about the spelling...

lol, its all good, when we had it up on the jackstands i thought the same thing so we did it again and the front ones had power to them as because they spun with power we were able to stop them but only with force....

I agree with you in that maybe the light is on for some other reason...but that still doesn't explain why we couldn't get the reader to communicate with that modual? wouldn't the scanner still be able to communicate with it functioning or not? we couldn't get a code of that modual all day, we could access the ABS and the SES lights but not the check AWD light, i was leaning towards a short somewhere because i have AWD but cant communicate with the modual

there was only one time that it drove differently...but it was also our first snow of the year and i was having extreme difficulty going up our driveway...so i have all-season tires and they do slide a bit, but i had major problems that day with the light on, and it only comes on every once and a while. Sometimes i will drive to work with it out but than it will be on when i go home....it was out driving to the mall today, but when i was heading home it was back on again, but simply i dont think that it is any different now than it was before, but i am relatively sure that my AWD went out that day...but i can't be sure, if someone said that it was just very slippery i would say ok

if it goes out and comes back on it sounds like something is loose or is wiggling.

yea i crawled all up under there trying to find something loose on the outside of my truck, i did some looking at blazinlow and they were saying a body ground problem of sorts...
