View Full Version : Can you put zr2 tires on a ls 4wd.
would the wheels on a zr2 fit the LS 4wd? would they extend out past the wheels flares? Would the tires off the zr2 be too tall for the LS. thanks

I have a ZR2 and the stock wheel size is 15x7. The tires are 31x10.5. My tires when making sharp turns, rub against the wheel flares. So if you don't have a lift on your standard 4x4, ZR2 tires likely wouldn't work, they would rub too bad. As far as wheels go, i'm not sure what the stock size wheel is on a standard 4x4.
the stock wheel is 15 inch with P235/70r15. I wonder if i could put these tires on the zr2 wheels thanks

I moved this thread to the proper forum..
I'd say yes to the wheel swap but the only thing that's kinda holding me back from being 100% is that ZR2s are about 3" wider than 4x4s.. rear end & such. Should work though..

yeah the rims are fine...it matters more about tire size.....stock size for both rims is 15x7 i believe.....

Yeah, aren't ZR2 rooms the same as some standard 4x4 rims? I know they look the same and both are 15x7 size. The ZR2 gets a wider stance from the wider axle in the rear and modified frame/components in the front. My stock tires were P235/75R15 on my '02 4x4 Blazer LS. I'd say if you put 31x10.5 on there without a lift to expect a lot of rubbing.

from what i've read and heard, zr2 type rims are only offered on zr2's. rim size idk but i know tire size is different. i don't know if it would be possible with that size tire on a standard 4x4 as I have a lot of trouble when cranking the wheel on mine and it has the zr2 lift. I really don't think those tires would work. Zr2 rims with different tires probably would though.
Should probably clear up that I meant Zr2 rim style is only offered on Zr2's, not the size. Sorry for any confusion.

Not to argue, but.... These are my stock rims. And they are definitely 15x7 with a 4.75x5 bolt pattern. Are they different than yours? Unless the backspacing is different, what difference is there? And where did read/hear information that are different?

Those are exactly what I have. I read the information in a Chevy s10 sales brochure...I'll attach the link.

Ok. I see it, too. Those were probably offered first on the ZR2 and then the decided to put them on the regular 4x4s. The lighter colored 5 spokes that are shown right next to those on pg16 used to be put on ZR2s and they specifically say "not available with ZR2" under the picture.

The one thing I'll never understand about Chevy is that they brake all there own rules. They say things are not available, but you can get it anyway. I got the "Not available for ZR2" rims on my Z, and I have the "available with ZR2 only" rims on my 2000 ls blazer 4x4.
As far as putting ZR2 tires on your non Z goes, you would more then likley have to trim. The stock 4x4 tires (235/75x15) are only 28.9" tall, where as a stock ZR2 tire (31x10.5X15) are 30.97"
Stock 4x4 wheels, this includes all ZR2 wheels are 15x7 5x4.75 bolt pattern and have 6" backspacing.

Probably just a difference from one year to another.

I had 31x10.5x15 on my 96 blazer ls, it only rubbed a little on sharp turns, meaning as far as the wheel can go, i never had them rub in the city or anything like that, i ran the 31's for nearly 6 months, the only time they would rub is pulling in or out of driveways but thats with the wheel as far is it could go. I think it rubs on the torsion bar on either side. Just thought this might help since i have ran them before.

Do you have any kind of a lift? I have a ZR2 with the factory 2" lift and my tires rub when making sharp turns. I would think a standard 2wd or 4wd would have major problems without the additional 2" lift but that's just my opinion. :shouldershrugg: Then again I know for a fact it was mostly my drivers side tire and also, there is rub wear on my wheel flares. Which I believe are also only on ZR2's? Hmm...

I see that the mass majority seems to have it right here.
My 88 jimmy and my 2001 blazer ZR2 both have rim sizes of 15x7
the only question is the 6" BS the bolt pattern should be the same.
but like what has been already said, the tire size is what matters. you will need some sort of lift to fit 31's 235/75R15 equal about a 29-30" tire.

i had no lift at all, i junked a toyota with the 31,s on it and decided i wanted to try it out and see how it handles and looks. I have a couple of pictures somewhere, before and after. Brian

I'm surprised you didn't have too much rubbing. I rub sometimes on mine if I'm driving it hard. I'd love to see those pics.

Does the 4wd sit higher than a 2wd? Because i have 2 inch lift springs and my 30's rub at full turn i couldnt imagine how bad 31's would rub

Yeeah I think that the 4wd sit just a little bit higher than the 2wd but not by much I wouldn't think. Yeah the wheels from a zr2 would totally but not with the 31" tires if you don't have some sort of a lift. because I have a 2 or so inch lift and my 31" tires rub a tiny little bit on my mud flaps up front but only on the left. The only difference between reg. s10 rims and zr2 rims is that the zr2 rims have a little of a backspacing.

what makes you say they have backspacing? If you're saying that b/c they seem to stick out more, that's actually accomplished by a wider axle in the rear, and modified frame in the front. Just wondered where you got your info.
