I bought shackles for my gen 1 Blazer from Pep Boys. Had to modify them slightly, but they worked.

I bought mine from a local 4 wheel drive shop for $79 but, they just ordered them from Superlift. I checked with Superlift and they recommend the shackles AND their add-a-leaf kit to take care of the sag(1" lift from each for a total of 2" lift). But they told me I would probably need a way to extend my shocks if I wanted any extra lift. I'm putting on the shackles today, so I'll make sure to get pictures of before and after.

Seems like 2" of lift would be too much. I'm sure it will vary by case, but I'd think 1" would generally be enough. Doesn't the ZR2 already have longer shackles? So be careful that you buy lift shackles for a ZR2--not just a regular blazer.

I didn't keep the old shackles. The guy threw them away before I picked it up because they were rusted pretty bad. Which reminds me... you guys, check your shackles for excessive rusting!

I'll measure the length of the Superlift shackles and post back later. You do know that they are not just 2 straps of steel like the old days?? They are a one piece U-shape made of 3/16" steel.

hey tom how much was it for labor to put the shackles on? im getting spindles and was thinking about getting shackles too

Thanks... I'm pretty happy with it so far.......

I got the shackles on yesterday and paid a mechanic $125 to do it. Although after looking closer at it... probably could've done it myself in a couple of hours. There is room to get the bolts out so no gas tank removal.

I measured the new shackles (not exact measurements but close): Shackle length- 8.5"
Bolt hole(c-c): 7"
Ask if you need any other measurements.

Since that was finished I got the exhaust done today. Not 100% satisfied, but it sounds pretty good. I suppose the week of driving will alter the tone some. I'll get some pics tomorrow and post. It looks awesome with those slant cuts sticking out the back. :D

oh ill probably do it myself then

There is a plastic cover over the gas tank on mine, it looks like if you remove that(4 bolts), it should make it fairly easy to do. The guy quoted me $150(3 hours labor charge), then reduced it because it didn't take as long. Wish I woulda done it myself now. LOL

my gas tank isnt by the shackles so it should be even easier

Tom, were your original shackles bare metal? Mine were painted and in really good condition. The superlift shackles don't come painted, and it'd be a good idea to primer and undercoat them.

Yeah, it's not too bad of a job. Tools that make the job easier: a giant set of channel locks to push the bolts out, and a second set of hands.

I know you can get around this, but you really need 2 sets of jack stands--one to support the rear of the truck and another to support the rear axle.

The Superlift shackles are anodized. Not sure how long that will stay the corrosion though.

I believe a floor jack would be invaluable for this job.

I've ended up with 2 pair of the Daystar shackles. The Cadmium plating is pretty good, lasts a long time out here in Cali, not sure about states that salt the roads tho. One pair was used for 5 yrs and its still intact.

I have been waiting for Knaffle to start making them again. synergyoffroad.com (http://www.synergyoffroad.com/) resells Knaffle's shackles. I'd like to get the 2" or 2.5" lift shackles. They are really heavy duty and black powder coated so they don't look annoying.
