I need to get some parts for a friend, what is the difference between the two, he is wanting to do the Corvette Servo mod to a Grand Am, I think the difference is the 60 is front wheel drive so the mod won't work would it? Its been a while since I looked at a Grand Am, so I can't remember if they are FWD or RWD, thanks for the helpies guys!!!!

That would be cool if a corvette servo would work, I'll investigate, and report, if anyone else has an answer, that would be great!!!

You might be able to get some info on the GrandPrix SC sites they use 4T60e's.

and I was gonna say the 4L stannds for 4 forward gears LATERAL mount and the 4T is the same but TRANSVERSE get it? L and T GM is so tricky with the acronyms ain't they? lol

4 = First digit is the gears
L/T = Second digit is the use. (L=longitudal/RWD & T=transverse/FWD)
60/80/65 = Third digit is the strenght range (30 is weaker then an 80)
E = Last digit is only there on the PCM-Controlled trannys (electronic)

The differences in the FWD/RWD trannys differ greatly. The chances of part interchange is slim-to-none.

Check the parts numbers for both.
If you get the same part number for both it will probably work.

I didn't know about the L/T for the use, and I didn't know about the double digit, thanks!!!!

A Turbo 350 these days would be a 3L60. A Turbo 400 would be a 3L80. A 4L80E is a Turbo 400, electronically shifted with an overdrive added in. No kidding, lots of Turbo 400 parts fit in the 4L80E.

An Allison (found in diesel trucks) is a 5L100E.

X2 GM in recent years decided to update their tranny IDs to make it easier to understand. Thats why the TH700R4 became the 4L60 and then the 4L60E when the PCM controlled was added.
