Need help on a budget build
so i have a 4.3L 98 s-10, CSFI injected. i plan on making my own intake, (im in a shop class and have piping, MIG welders, pipe benders the whole deal) getting a velocity stack, taking the restrictor plate off the throttle body, saw some cheap pacesetter headers for about 190, and need ideas for new exhaust that sounds good, yet affordable... any ideas or thoughts on how else i can get more power? im trying to keep everything under $500...
not gonna lie, ive already had some problems with the car, alignment issues, and other stuff. and the cosmetics are nothin special, theres dents from when a cop hit my door with a night stick, its not super clean, everyone thinks its garbage and if i go to fast think itll blow up. ha, it runs just fine though, and im just putting money in the engine. i raced my friends civic and beat him by one car length. ever since then i wanted to tune it up and see how fast i could make it under 500$ and hopefully beat a few other kids that think there 4 bangers are tough ha |

Re: Need help on a budget build
I just put a Dynomax Racebullet muffler on my 2005 Jimmy, sounds good. Straight through design, kinda like a cherry bomb, but a completely different sound.

Re: Need help on a budget build
haha i was actually lookin at nitrous, but was convinced that i probably need my full exhaust and intake first. you know what kind of numbers i can get tho with the list of mods i plan on doin?? right now im pushin 170 at the wheels, im gettin headers, maybe flowmaster 40 series? custom intake, velocity stack, and removing the restrictor in throttle body, and E3 diamond fire sparks, my friend said he knows a few guys that might be able to get me a free dyno tune, so im hoping maybe 220+, is that reasonable?

Re: Need help on a budget build
IMO loud exhuast on any 4.3L sounds like crap. 4.3s just sound like that. I would say just toss the idea of a good sounding 4.3 right out the window and go with what is gonna flow the best. Dyno Max Ultra Flows and Hooker Maximum Flow mufflers are two of the best flowing muffler out there as well as being "quiet". I have the Hooker Max Flow but it's still sitting on the closet shelf
The bullet Jay suggested will flow awesome as well, probably better than the other 2 I mentioned since it is really a race muffler. It is a bit on the loud side. Doesn't sound bad though.

Re: Need help on a budget build
idk i heard flowmaster 50 series sounds good, but right now thats not in my budget. barely makin 7.50 an hour with 8 hour work weeks ha, thats why i need to keep everything as cheap as possible :/ this kid has a ranger and it sounds like slapping a rubberband against metal ha, and this other kid has a 1500 with the 4.3 but it actually sounds pretty good, not super loud, but u can still hear it pretty good ha
